It was initially available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a combined CLTC range of 1,003 km (623 miles) on a full charge and full tank of fuel. The PHEV version was sold in six- and seven-seat configurations, but was discontinued after less than a year due to sluggish sales. For the new model, BYD is upgrading it with an all-electric powertrain, and its latest batteries, charging, and other related vehicle components. The setup provides “a world-leading 1,003 km pure electric range,” the company said, or just as much as the discontinued PHEV version. It will also be equipped with BYD’s Flash Charging technology, enabling it to recharge from 10% to 70% in just five minutes. For a full recharge, or to go from 10% to 97%, it takes just nine minutes. While no specs were revealed, the new Denza N8 appeared in the batch of new energy vehicles approved for sale by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) last week, revealing a few key details. According to the filing, the new Denza N8 EV measures 5,150 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,820 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,075 mm. Powered by a massive 130.15 kWh battery pack, the new Denza N8 has a pure electric CLTC range of 1,003 km (623 miles). The RWD version uses a single motor with an output of either 320 kW (429 hp) or 370 kW (496 hp). Based on BYD’s e3 platform, the tri-motor Denza N8 has a 270 kW (362 hp) front motor and two 310 kW (416 hp) rear motors, delivering a combined output of 890 kW (1,193 hp). Denza offered a closer look at the N8’s interior ahead of its upcoming launch. Swaying away from the usual floating infotainment screen in most of its new vehicles, the N8 features a massive 30″ display that spans nearly across the dashboard on the passenger side. Top comment by European Bob Liked by 5 people Something that is often missed with the surface level figures is that if an EV can charge 10-97% in 10 minutes on a flash charger (I think these are around 1.1MW peak), if you pull into one of the increasingly popular 600kW chargers, you're still going to get a very good charging curve, it's unlikely to take twice as long as the 1.1MW charger.Personally i'm still in the place where I like a 20 minute break every 3 hours of driving, so these flash chargers don't interest me at all. View all comments Outside of the digital screens, the N8 adopts several other high-end features, including ambient lighting, premium seats, a wireless phone charger, and a three-spoke steering wheel. Overall, the cabin has a clean, premium feel. The new electric version looks nearly identical in shape and size to the larger plug-in Denza N8L, which BYD launched in June with its Flash Charging tech. In September, BYD will also launch the fully electric Denza N8L, adding a six-seat configuration to the lineup. Denza said the larger SUV will feature a “208L super-large intelligent electric front trunk.” We should learn more soon, with the new electric Denza N8 and N8L expected to go on sale in China next month.
