Now, as the Chinese car brand sets its sights on Europe and North America, it’s ordering 10 more. Citing multiple industry chain sources and quotes on LinkedIn, Middle Eastern maritime magazine Robban Assafina is reporting that BYD placed an order for ten additional 9,200 CEU pure car and truck carriers. The rumored order would bring BYD’s existing fleet to 18 LNG-powered ships, with a staggering combined cargo capacity of more than 130,000 (!) cars. Through the month of August, BYD’s registrations have surged by 98%, with over 48,000 vehicles registered in the UK. BYD now accounts for 3.48% of the UK’s new car market, up from just 1.92% during the same period last year. BYD is making a similar push for rapid grown on the continent, as well, introducing an updated version of the brand’s Great Seagull EV first shown at the Chengdu Auto Show earlier this year. BYD accounted for 35.4% of China’s passenger “new energy” vehicle exports (read: EV and hybrid).
