Yearly creeps are expected, so it's a welcome change of pace for the starting cost to stay the same. For the Forester Premium, Subaru actually trimmed the sticker. For 2027, the gas version starts at $31,995, compared to $33,385 last year. The Wilderness gets the optional equipment package as standard for less than it costs on the 2026 model. - Credit: SubaruElsewhere in the lineup, Subaru has made a few changes to streamline options. The gas-only Sport, Sport Onyx Edition, and Touring trims won't return for 2027.AdvertisementAdvertisementEven so, most of the hybrids cost the same. The gas Limited and the Touring Hybrid arrive with small decreases, down $100 and $50, respectively, at $37,595 and $41,545.The only trim that isn't staying consistent or starting any cheaper is the Wilderness. However, that's because Subaru made the optional equipment package standard, adding an 11.6-inch multimedia system, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and other upgrades.Subaru's Forester marks the brand's first nameplate to get a Wilderness Hybrid. - Credit: SubaruFor anyone who'd get the option anyway, it does work out to some savings. At $39,495, it's still up by less than the $2,200 the extra features cost on the 2026 model. The Wilderness Hybrid arrivesBeyond the pricing, the other big news for the 2027 Forester is the debut of the Wilderness Hybrid.AdvertisementAdvertisementWe covered it when Subaru first announced the powertrain earlier this year, and it's a development that's especially important because it marks the first Subaru Wilderness variant to explore beyond gas-only power.Along with better fuel economy, it also delivers more power. - Credit: SubaruLike the standard Forester Hybrid, it uses an Atkinson/Miller-cycle 2.5-liter boxer paired with a high-capacity lithium-ion battery and electric motors to produce 194 horsepower.Subaru says this translates to up to 25 percent better fuel economy compared to the non-hybrid Wilderness model. As a bonus, the hybrid powertrain bumps output to 194 horsepower. The Forester continues to be a strong performer in Subaru's U.S. lineup. Hopefully, 2027 can keep the momentum going. - Credit: SubaruAt $40,495, it's also only $1,000 more than the gas version. That means it brings a smaller premium compared to some of Subaru's other Foresters, like the Limited and Limited Hybrid.Availability and pricingThe 2027 Subaru Forester and Forester Hybrid will arrive at dealers in the fall. While destination and delivery are slightly up, the increase is a mere $25 (now $1,475).2027 Subaru Forester Starts at $29,995 AdvertisementAdvertisementAbout the Author: Gray is an associate editor at Gear Patrol, covering cars, motorcycles and anything else with wheels.
