2024 BMW iX4 Brings 'Coupe' Looks to Neue KlasseBMWThe recently revealed BMW iX3 is one of the brand's most important cars ever, the first electric vehicle on the company's Neue Klasse architecture and the Bavarian firm's primary battery-powered entry into the ever-important small-to-midsize crossover space. The BMW iX4, on the other hand, is slightly less revolutionary. BMW naming convention experts will note that the X4 badge was previously applied to a coupe-like X3 variant with a rounded roof, and will not be shocked to see that is a tradition that continues with the latest Neue Klasse EV.Like the iX3 and iX5 before it, the iX4 wears the aggressive corporate face for new BMW SUVs first shown on the Vision Neue Klasse X concept. At around the edge of the front set of doors, the roof line begins to curve down for the "coupe" shape so recognizable on BMWs of this shape since it debuted on the first-generation X6. The brand says that it contributes to a slippery 0.23 drag coefficient here, ever-so-slightly more slick than the 0.24 drag coefficient of the standard iX3.Performance figures for the dual-motor iX4 50 are in line with the iX4's more conventionally-shaped cousin, with an estimated 428-mile range that's just short of the iX3's EPA-certified 434-mile number. The 112.2-kWh battery can be charged at peak rates of 400 kW—so quick that the iX4 can receive up to 184 miles of range in just 10 minutes of fast charging on the right system. A 10-to-80-percent fast charge at full output takes an estimated 21 minutes, while support for 15.4-kW level 2 AC charging means that the car can charge relatively quickly at home with the right preparation, too.BMWA medium-hot M model, the iX4 M60, adds serious power to the discussion thanks to a dual-motor setup producing 603 hp and 649 lb-ft of torque. That version sprints from 0-62 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds and continues all the way up to an electronically-limited 149 mph. The M60 model also comes standard with adaptive dampers, which available as an option on the non-M iX4 50 variant.Available yellow running lights are a distinct touch optional on the iX4 M60, a nod to BMW's GT cars that will also look familiar to anyone who has seen higher-end M3 models like the CS. Split lines in the light signature are meant to evoke the BMW M logo, rendered in a more typical white light.BMW says that the basic dual-motor iX4 starts at $66,200 before a destination and handling charge. Standard dual-motor models should arrive on lots soon, while M60 variants are set to begin production in March of 2027.Photo credit: BMWPhoto credit: BMWPhoto credit: BMWPhoto credit: BMWPhoto credit: BMWPhoto credit: BMWPhoto credit: BMWPhoto credit: BMWPhoto credit: BMWPhoto credit: BMWPhoto credit: BMWPhoto credit: BMWPhoto credit: BMWPhoto credit: BMWPhoto credit: BMWPhoto credit: BMWPhoto credit: BMWPhoto credit: BMWPhoto credit: BMWPhoto credit: BMWPhoto credit: BMWIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
