BMW M3 EV Looks Strikingly Similar to the Concept CarBMWBMW has released photos of a camouflaged M3 EV that show the production model will stick close to the original Concept M Neue Klasse prototype. The first fully electric M3 wears aggressive styling and will represent the pinnacle of performance for the electric i3 lineup.Pricing and release dates haven't yet been announced, but we expect the M3 EV to be revealed sometime next year.BMW's trail of breadcrumbs to the first fully electric M3 keeps getting longer. This time, new photos reveal that the upcoming production version is heavily influenced by the original Concept M Neue Klasse shown back in June. The M3 will sit atop the i3 hierarchy, which is the electric range of BMW's next-generation 3-series that goes on sale next year. We've known bits and pieces about this future M3 EV for a while, beginning in 2024 with some heavily camouflaged photos.BMWTwo years later, BMW dropped a few more crumbs, announcing the M3's quad-motor setup that assigns one electric motor to each wheel. Depending on the driving conditions, the M3 can initiate all-wheel drive or decouple the front axle for rear-wheel-drive mischief. It also gets a track-ready battery pack that has a higher peak output and adds stiffness to the chassis. We caught a first look at BMW's brand-new design language in June, when BMW revealed the Concept M Neue Klasse—a prototype based heavily on the then-unreleased i3 sedan. A handful of photos released this week show that most of the original Neue Klasse styling remains on the production M3 EV, though some aspects have been dialed back as the electric high-performance sports sedan gets closer to production.BMWThe overall aesthetic of the original concept remains strong in the newest M3 EV teaser photos. The front headlights and kidney grille layout, the hood's V-shaped indent, and the hood scoop design seem remarkably similar, as well as the "track lights" that BMW introduced as a new staple on M performance cars. The massive air intakes on the concept have been subdued during the prototype phase, and they now feature a sweeping shape that rounds out along the edges of the front and rear bumpers.Though the camouflage makes it a bit hard to tell, it looks like the production M3 EV's fenders will be slightly thinner than the concept's wide flares. The mirror caps, which were quite square in the concept car, also take on a rounder shape with a flicked outer edge that resembles production-ready cars.At the rear, the new track lights reappear along the outer edges of the bumper. The trunk's shape is toned down too, trading sharp body lines around the BMW badge for a smoother tail and a small spoiler. The M3 will be built alongside the rest of the i3 lineup at BMW's factory in Munich, Germany. Beginning in 2027, the plant will exclusively produce electric vehicles. BMW hasn't yet released any pricing or production dates, but we expect the 2028 BMW M3 EV to be revealed sometime in 2027.➡️ Skip the lot.
