BMW M3 Elektro (2027) TeaserbilderThe latest teaser shows the electric M3 in its lightest camouflage yet, giving us our clearest look at the production-bound sports sedan.BMW's latest teaser gives us our clearest look yet at the electric M3.It tones down the concept's styling but keeps its muscular stance and distinctive lighting. The quad-motor M3 EV is expected to debut in 2027, with production starting that year.BMW has published new images of the upcoming electric M3, and they are the most revealing yet. This is the car with its finished production body and lights, and even with camouflage, you get a clear idea of where it's going. And it's going somewhere reassuringly close to the M Concept Neue Klasse BMW revealed in June, although it's predictably less extreme. The production car appears to keep the concept's muscular stance, but with toned-down aero elements, no ducktail spoiler, and conventional side mirrors replacing the concept's sculptural, supercar-style items.BMW M3 Electric (2027) teaser imagesThe flared wheel arches and the cool ventilated hood remain. So do the yellow headlight graphics and distinctive squared-off lighting elements lower down. Its bulging arches give it a noticeably broader stance than the recently shown i3 M60. Nobody should have trouble telling the full M car apart from the regular i3.Under the camouflaged body is a version of the Neue Klasse platform with four independent motors, one for each wheel. Final output remains unconfirmed, but rumors suggest some variants could push 1,000 horsepower. The horsepower number will surely be impressive and higher than in any previous combustion M3, but what will make the first-ever electric model unique is how its quad-motor setup puts that power down. We expect advanced torque vectoring that should let it adjust power at each wheel independently, helping the car rotate through corners, find traction on the way out, and drift as fans expect it to.The electric M3 won't be a silent EV. However, unlike Mercedes-AMG, which is trying to imitate its V-8, BMW M has taken a different approach. Engineers studied combustion engine sounds from the most iconic M cars to understand their emotional appeal, then used the electric motors' own sounds as a foundation. The aim is to provide speed and acceleration cues alongside the drama, not trick you into thinking you're in a gas-burning M3.BMW M3 Electric (2027) teaser imagesBMW also intends to give buyers a meaningful choice when picking which M3 to buy. Its M division has said the electric and combustion M3 models should sit in the same price ballpark, with a gas-powered successor to today's G80 on the way.The bigger question is whether the electric M3 will be good enough to win over fans of the combustion car. Matching it probably won't cut it. To make enthusiasts truly embrace the switch, it needs to be substantially better—and that advantage has to show up in corners, through the steering wheel and in the urge to take the long way home. The new teaser certainly suggests it will at least look the part. The electric M3 is expected to be revealed in 2027, with production beginning in Munich that year. BMW hasn't announced when customer deliveries will start, but it could be before the end of 2027.More On ThisIs The BMW i3's 468-Mile Range Overkill?A Cheap BMW Neue Klasse EV Is Coming In 2028The New BMW i3 EV Is Coming To The U.S. Sooner Than ExpectedThe BMW iX3 Beat Mercedes And Volvo On Efficiency And Range In A Highway Test
