BMW i3 M60 Comes Next Year as a Gnarlier EV SedanBMWAmidst the reveal of the next-generation gas-powered 3-series, BMW teased a more aggressive version of the electric i3.The i3 M60 xDrive M Performance will top the electric i3's lineup, at least until the arrival of the full-fledged electric M model. The i3 M60 will be available with carbon-fiber M Performance parts, and it will get an official reveal sometime next year. The gas-powered 2027 BMW 3-series was revealed yesterday with styling that mirrors the all-electric i3 and a more powerful M350 model. But BMW also announced that the i3 50 xDrive and i3 40 xDrive will soon be joined by an M60 sibling, and it's slated to be the brawniest of the bunch. BMW says the i3 M60 xDrive M Performance model will sit at the top of the i3 lineup as an "ultra-potent" electric performance car, although it is expected to be eventually supplanted by a full-fledged M model.BMWThere's no word yet on how much power the M60 will make. Since BMW says the M60 will top the i3's lineup, it's likely poised to surpass the i3 50 xDrive's 469 horsepower and 4.7-second sprint to 62 mph. The automaker only made a brief mention of the elusive M60, but the photos BMW published show some clear differences between the M60 and the rest of the i3 lineup. Most notably, the M60 wears black performance wheels instead of the i3 50's metallic wheels. At the front, the M60's headlights take on a sharper shape and include the classic M badge, with the vertical LEDs glowing yellow. The only difference between the models from the side view seems to be the mirror caps. While the standard i3 40 and 50 models have color-matched mirror caps, the M60 gets a more aggressive carbon fiber cap that adds a slight flick up at the outer edge and the M brand's three-stripe motif. At the rear, there's a slightly more pronounced diffuser.BMW has even already shown the M60 with optional M Performance parts, which include a more aggressive carbon-fiber front splitter, a more aggressively styled rear diffuser, and a small carbon-fiber rear spoiler. The M Performance parts also include more ornate multi-spoke wheels.BMWBlack upholstery inside the M60 is broken up by red and blue stitching, mood lighting, and red accents. The dashboard fabric looks more textured than the material used on the other models, and while BMW didn't show a clear shot of the seats, it appears the M60 will get upgraded performance seats. The M60's steering wheel is much different than the wheel available in the i3 50, skipping the vertical spokes and adding silver L-shaped spokes on either side. A red stripe marks the wheel's 12 o'clock position, and similar stripes line the edges of the paddle shifters. It also has more functions than the i3 50's wheel, including Boost and M Mode buttons, which further imply that the M60 will have more power than the other i3 variants. There's still a lot left to discover about the i3 M60 xDrive M Performance, which is expected to be fully revealed sometime in 2027. If that's too long to wait for an electric BMW sedan, the i3 50 xDrive and the i3 40 xDrive will hit dealerships in early 2027.➡️ Skip the lot.
