2027 BMW iX3 M60 Joins the Party Packing 603 HPBMWThe 2027 BMW iX3 lineup is adding an M60 performance model that features a standard 603-hp all-wheel-drive powertrain.BMW claims the new iX3 M60 can accelerate to 62 mph in 3.9 seconds on its way to a 149-mph top speed; its EPA-estimated driving range has not been released yet.The iX3 M60 will be available to order in January 2027, though we're still waiting to hear from BMW about how much it will cost.If you're interested in BMW's new electric compact luxury SUV, but the existing iX3 50 isn't spicy enough for your tastes, the menu is about to expand to include a high-performance variant that features the brand's iconic M badge. To be clear, the 2027 BMW iX3 M60 isn't a full-blown M car. While it's a step below that tier, it still looks to have the bona fides to get your blood pumping after unplugging it from the charger.BMWWhereas the iX3 50 xDrive features dual electric motors that send 463 horsepower and 476 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels, the iX3 M60 pushes those figures to 603 ponies and 645 pound-feet. BMW says the increase comes from an enhanced rear-mounted electric motor that features a new stator and a more powerful inverter. Along with a higher max rotor speed, the M60 has a longer gear ratio that enables a top speed of 149 mph (up from 130 mph). BMW claims the mightier iX3 can hit 62 mph in 3.9 seconds—a full second quicker than its less powerful sibling. Both the iX3 50 xDrive and M60 xDrive share an 800-volt electrical system, including a 112-kWh battery pack. Likewise, their charging rate peaks at 400 kW, and while the 50 has an EPA-estimated driving range of up to 434 miles, we'll have to wait a bit to find out how far the M60 can travel on a full charge. Considering it comes with standard 21-inch wheels, though, that final estimate will be under 400 miles, and the optional 22-inchers will drop the range even lower.BMWYou'll be able to tell an M60 from the other iX3 by its rear badge, of course, but also its roof spoiler and unique lighting signatures. The front incorporates the M logo as well as a three-element motif, and customers can also opt for yellow lights that are a nod to BMW's motorsports pedigree. But the iX3 M60 has the hardware to back up its sporty visual flourishes. That includes a specially tuned suspension with adaptive dampers, variable steering ratio, upgraded brakes, and an electronically controlled rear diff. Its dynamic systems are also managed by BMW's "Heart of Joy superbrain," a newly developed consolidated control unit that's found on every Neue Klasse EV.Inside, drivers get to experience BMW's new futuristic dashboard layout, which essentially turns what would traditionally be found in a gauge cluster into a pillar-to-pillar display. Along with an optional 3-D head-up display, you can choose to outfit your iX3 M60 with front sport seats that'll better hug you during hard cornering. You won't have to pay extra for the 17.9-inch hexagonal touchscreen that looks like it's leaning toward the driver. BMW also spruces up the M60's cabin with M-specific details, such as the steering wheel with dedicated buttons for Boost and customizable drive modes. And for those who like to rock, a 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system that supports Dolby Atmos is standard. Provided you're on a highway and don't need to exceed 85 mph, the iX3 offers hands-free driving, but the SAE Level 2 system still requires you keep your eyes on the road.BMWThe 2027 BMW iX3 M60 will be available to order sometime at the end of January next year, with production slated to start at BMW's Hungary factory in the spring. We should find out how much it costs between now and then, but considering the iX3 50 currently starts at $62,850, we wouldn't be surprised if the high-performance model surpasses $70K.➡️ Skip the lot.
