Gasgoo Munich-BYD's new energy vehicle components base in Fufeng, Baoji, has recently launched another large-scale recruitment drive.According to disclosures from Fufeng authorities, Baoji BYD Industry currently employs about 7,200 people, with plans to hire 2,200 more in this round. Should the hiring targets be met, the workforce will approach 10,000. That scale is rare for a county-level components factory, signaling that BYD is doubling down on its parts production layout across Shaanxi province. The expansion is most visible in the wire harness business. Production lines previously located in Xi'an have been gradually relocated to Fufeng. The Baoji Development and Reform Commission disclosed in 2025 that the relocated operations comprised more than 60 lines. According to the latest update from Fufeng, that number has risen to 87. The goal is to build BYD's largest wire harness plant in China, boasting the highest levels of automation and digitalization.Public notice on the proposed revision of the master plan for the new energy passenger vehicle components project of Baoji BYD Industry Co., Ltd. Image source: Fufeng County People's GovernmentFufeng is no longer limited to wire harnesses. On August 26, a new frame stamping production line went into operation. Spanning 32,760 square meters, the facility plans for 10 automated lines and 14 continuous die production lines, covering parts such as frames and brakes. At full capacity, monthly output is expected to reach 100,000 vehicle sets, adding roughly 500 million yuan in annual production value. The primary destination for this capacity is BYD's Xi'an vehicle assembly base, roughly 100 kilometers away. Fufeng effectively absorbs some of the production functions as Xi'an's manufacturing footprint spreads to the periphery. By leveraging land, labor, and transport logistics, the site is reallocating labor- and manufacturing-intensive processes like wire harnessing and stamping. The impact on the local economy is tangible. Official data from Baoji shows the city's total automotive industry output reached 67.136 billion yuan in 2025, up 12.35% year-on-year, while BYD-related output surged 128.53%. The Fufeng base generated approximately 2.92 billion yuan in value in 2025, with projections of around 3 billion yuan for 2026.However, this still falls short of the initial target of "over 10 billion yuan" in output for the first phase set at the project's inception. When the project launched in 2023, officials projected it would directly create 17,000 jobs. With the relocation of Xi'an's wire harness capacity and the addition of stamping operations, the Fufeng base is edging closer to that goal. Yet whether it ultimately becomes a genuine manufacturing hub employing 10,000 hinges on follow-up orders, production line utilization rates, and sustained support from BYD's vehicle sales.
