Students of KLU Deemed University have introduced a unique electric bike prototype with an inbuilt wireless charging facility at Hyderabad. The initiative came from a group of students of 3rd and 4th years. They belonged to the Department of Electrical Engineering and electronics at the college. The group has been joined by some pass-out students as well, and this is why the outcome of their joint venture of this prototype is highly accepted due to its latest features and mechanism.
What innovative changes set this invention apart?
It is the great combination of charging technology and battery functioning that enhances the overall potency of the charger. This mechanism is commendable, and it is the primary factor that sets the invention apart from others. The EV is developed with unbelievable futuristic features of battery balance and a next-level wireless charging mechanism. EVs can be used in only specific parts of the world.
How did KLU start to work on the project?
The team conceptualized the project and started working on it when they got free access to the university’s labs and got hands-on testing facilities. The labs and testing centers are available in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, and it is mainly the joint initiative and zeal for the invention that helped the group go a long way and get the best possible outcome out of it.
Feature of the vehicle
- It takes 5 hours to charge
- It can run for a maximum speed of 55 km per hour on a single charge
- It has a payload of 85 to 100 kilometers
However, the excellent combination of its mechanism and features makes it the showstoppers, and it is to remain in the market for a good time as it has been preferred by many soon after its launch. Here, it is mainly redesigning an existing model and modifying it with wireless technology. It is mainly the work of the budding engineers who wanted to bring out the best of the old design and latest mechanism of battery charging. It helps in ease of driving and smooth control of its features.
Grant from university for the project
University has approved a big grant of rupees 140 000 to the team and helpedsuccessfully implement the project. The staff and teachers helped the students to a great extent with this innovative research. It also helped the student bring out a unique result of this project and get adequate support from the university faculty and staff. The principal of the University was also thinking quite positively of this project and so helped the students whole-heartedly for their achievement in this.
How did the team deal with the challenge?
It is an obvious challenge for the team to work on it from the beginning, identifying the hurdles and overcoming it. The project’s first year has been mostly about competitions, prototyping,retaining the features, and looking close to its original version. The lab project at the University of Kuala Lumpur has been the basis of work for different measurements, components, power electronics, and machinery of other projects and helped in the original project adequately. It has been stated by a member of the project team from the bachelor of engineering stream.
Some of the members participating in this EV prototype project are KirietiPolasi, Sandeep, Charan Sai Tiruvuri, S. Lokesh Babu, and V. Sai Pravin. They belong to B. Tech EEE of the 2017 batch. In addition, there was K. Yashwant Sai, who is a B.Tech student. The correct formation of the team of undergraduates and some passed-out candidates have made it easy to conclude the project in such good shape. The project is a great achievement on the part of the students who started this with a zeal to come up with something innovative with EVs and make it as per the latest technology and result of it.
