BYD F-Brand wagon to be built alongside ute and offer 500kW EV powertrain, starting from $85K in China
BYD has released official spy shots of its incoming all-electric 4×4 off-roader it plans to launch late this year as a 2024 model with a target price of 600,000 yuan ($A86,000).
Set to herald a new sub-brand dubbed F-Brand and to include a ute version that was recently spotted testing in China, the still-to-be-named new battery-powered off-road wagon has been created as a zero-emissions alternative to the Land Rover Defender, Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Ford Bronco.
It will also line up against rival Chinese brand Chery’s Jetour Traveller and the GWM Tank 300 Hybrid that’s already on sale in Australia.
According to overseas reports, the F-Brand SUV will feature a mighty 500kW all-electric powertrain and will also be available as a plug-in hybrid in some markets.
Measuring about 5m long with a wheelbase of 2.8m, the SUV has rugged looks and a blocky design that apes off-road icons like the Defender and G-Wagen.
At the rear-end, the spy shots reveal it will have a spare wheel carrier and a barndoor tailgate.
There’s no word if the BYD F-Brand SUV or pick-up have been locked in for an Australian debut, but the Chinese brand plans to bolster its local range – currently headlined by the BYD Atto 3 – with several new models in the next couple of years.
