EICMA 2023: KTM debuts the 990 Duke

2024 marks 30 years of its Duke lineup, and KTM further fills the gap between the 390 Duke and its flagship 1290 Super Duke with the new 990 Duke, presented at this year’s EICMA in Italy.

2024 marks 30 years of the Duke model range, the all-new KTM 990 Duke slots into the line-up like a well-polished round in the chamber. In its quest to be the most performance-focused naked machine possible, the 2024-onwards KTM 990 Duke ticks all the right boxes mechanically, while deploying extreme new styling.

According to KTM, the new 990 Duke has been “upgraded” from top to bottom, with its larger displacement engine, newly-designed frame, swingarm, ergonomics and riding aids that will make it a capable foe of larger liter bikes.

At the face of it, predatory design meets reduced styling with an evolved LED headlight being a stand-out feature of the all-new KTM 990 Duke. Constructed from a carefully chosen mix of materials, the new design ensures lighting stability in all road conditions. Position and daytime running lights are located on the profile of the headlight, which also auto-adjusts in intensity according to ambient light conditions thanks to a light sensor integrated into the dashboard.

At the heart of the new 990 Duke is the updated LC8 engine found on the 890 Duke R, which now boasts 947cc displacement and is now capable of producing up to 124 Ps of power and 103 Nm of torque. KTM claims that the new 990 Duke tips the scales at only 179kg – making the new bike one of the most powerful in terms of power-to-weight ratio.

Other features of the new 990 Duke include an adjustable 43mm WP Apex fork in the front and WP Apex rear monoshock, which is also adjustable. it also boasts a 5-inch TFT screen with revised graphics, riding modes, and many more.
