Stellantis is recalling 270,904 Dodge and Jeep SUVs in the U.S. and another 19,758 SUVs in Canada because certain 2018 and 2019 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles may need their brake modules replaced.
Transport Canada has listed the issue as “a problem inside the hydraulic control unit for the antilock brake system.” The defect could allow the vehicle to perhaps be started, as well as shifted out of the park position, without the driver pressing down on the brake pedal.
If it is shifted into drive, it poses a safety risk, as the vehicle could roll or suddenly move, and potentially cause an accident. In addition, it can also cause the brake lights to stay on without use of the brake pedal.
According to Transport Canada, Stellantis is still developing corrective actions, but will notify affected owners by mail.
You can also check online at Transport Canada, using your VIN, to see if your SUV is affected. Transport Canada’s number for the Stellantis recall is 2022-305, while the manufacturer’s recall number is Z48. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) campaign number for the recall is 22V426000.
