Remedy Entertainment, the studio behind the action-adventure video game Control, has issued an apology and rolled back an update after it effectively broke the game for most players.
Update 1.04 for the game forced players to connect their game to the internet via the Epic Games Store launcher in order to play. It also dropped Steam controller support.
The devs issued an official statement and apology on Twitter, in which they explained that the reason the update made players use the Epic Games Store launcher was to “validate future paid expansions, not to force you to play online or to remove Steam controller support.”
While Remedy work on fixing the issues with the new update, which introduced an official Photo Mode to the game, Control has been reverted to its previous version.

Remedy Entertainment also said that there was “no need to blame Epic for [Remedy’s] mistakes.”
Control launched on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on August 27th, 2019.. Taking place in the Oldest House, a skyscraper in New York City, the game follows the Federal Bureau of Control’s new Director Jesse Fadden as she seeks to defeat a reality-corrupting enemy known as the Hiss.
We have an official MSPoweruser review available for Control in which we gave it a 9 out of 10, citing that Control “is the proud return of Remedy: distanced from the cold grasp of television, this is a full, lengthy title that always entertains. This is one of Remedy’s best.”
