Who knows when the Camaro nameplate will return.
The 2024 Chevrolet Camaro will be the final model year for the sixth-generation sports car. General Motors recently announced that the legendary nameplate would soon be retired with no immediate successor planned. The current generation Camaro has been around since 2016, including several special edition models, but it will bow out with a final Collector's Edition model. The Collector's Edition is inspired by the original 1960s Camaro, which was developed under the codename “Panther.”
“We found it fitting for this Collector's Edition Camaro to officially recognize the significance of the original code name and share it with Camaro enthusiasts,” said Rich Scheer, design director of Chevrolet Performance. “Of course, the name 'Panther' influenced the colors used, Panther Black Metallic for SS and Panther Matte Black for ZL1.”
2024 Camaro buyers have a choice of three engines; the 275-horsepower four-cylinder engine has been dropped for the final model year. That leaves the 3.6-liter V8, 6.2-liter LT1 V8, and supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V8. The Collector's Edition will be finished in Panther Black Metallic Tintcoat on the LT/RS, LT1, and SS trims with Satin Black accent stripes, 20-inch Satin Black wheels (or optional forged wheels), a 1LE front splitter and a ZL1 spoiler (coupe-only). Regular 2024 Camaro trims add two new colors called Riptide Blue and Nitro Metallic Yellow.
The 650-hp ZL1 Collector's Edition will be limited to 350 units, each painted in Panther Black Matte (the first matte paint offered on a Camaro). This top model will also get a Black Metallic ZL1 stripe, red brake calipers, black lug nuts, and the wing/spoiler from a ZL1 1LE. Inside, the car gets a serialized steering wheel badge with the build number out of 350.
Every Collector's Edition trim includes front fender script badging with a panther in the “R” of Camaro and a panther on the steering wheel. Inside, the car has black trim and a laser-etched aluminum Collector's Edition logo on the floor mats. A welcome kit adds two posters commemorating the Camaro generations, and those who buy the ZL1 will get a Shinola bespoke Canfield Sport 45mm watch.
Customers can order a 2024 Camaro starting on June 15, with pricing starting at $32,495 for the LT coupe and $38,495 for the LT Convertible. Pricing for the Collector's Edition is not available yet. This is your last chance to order a new Camaro for a while, so get one while you still can.
