Mahindra XUV700 debuted in India with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine as one of its powertrain options. This new petrol engine has enabled the Mahindra XUV700 to shatter all the benchmarks in its segment when it comes to pure performance.
Is it good enough to beat the segment leader from one category of SUVs above it, the Toyota Fortuner? A YouTuber Pratham Shokeen has found the answer with a clear winner in the end
The Contenders
The Mahindra XUV700 here employs a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, that is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox and pumps out 200 PS of maximum power and 380 Nm of maximum torque.
On the other hand, the Toyota Fortuner here is a pre-facelift 2016 model, which has a 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 174 PS of maximum power and 450 Nm of maximum torque. It too uses a 6-speed torque converter to transfer the power produced to the rear wheels.
The XUV700 is the most powerful car in its segment and is even more powerful than the Fortuner
Both the SUVs here weigh more or less the same, i.e somewhere 2 tonnes. However, while the XUV700 is a front-wheel-drive vehicle with more power on tap, the Fortuner packs rear-wheel-drive and produces more torque.

Round 1
The Fortuner produces much more torque than the XUV700
In this round, Pratham, who is at the wheel of the Mahindra XUV700, has a late launch compared to the Fortuner. However, within a few seconds, the XUV700 catches up with the Fortuner and eventually beats it in the drag race by maintaining a significant lead.

In this round, we can see the XUV700 get a good start and the Mahindra maintains the lead over the Fortuner, thus beating the Toyota in the second round as well.
Round 3
In the last round, while the owner of the XUV700 continues to be there behind its steering wheel, Pratham takes the steering wheel of the Toyota Fortuner in his control. However, this time, the XUV700 gets a better launch off the mark over the Fortuner and gets a huge lead over the Fortuner till the end.
Conclusion
And overtakes it to take the lead
In all three rounds, we can see that the Mahindra XUV700 has beaten the Toyota Fortuner with ease. The better power delivery in the initial RPMs on the XUV700 managed to help it get an early lead over the Fortuner, which in contrast takes time to build speed.
However, one should note that the purpose of both these SUVs is entirely different and not meant for using them in drag races. While the XUV700 has impressed many with its on-road driving dynamics, the Fortuner has a legendary history when it comes to durability and off-road driving prowess.
