When you’re splurging money in the millions, you’re doing to want some bragging rights to go with it. Superlatives such as the world’s best or fastest or sexist are a sure-fire way to part a man and his millions. The new Aston Martin DBX707 is the world’s most powerful luxury SUV and can be yours for RM 1,078,000 (excluding taxes).
if you're wondering why the caveat of “luxury” is in there, well it's because Dodge makes this insane thing called the Durango SRT Hellcat.
Nonetheless, Aston Martin started with the already impressive DBX and cranked everything up to 11.
Starting with the powertrain, they went all out with the DBX’s 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 and gave it some balls to go with those massive turbos… ball-bearings that is. You’ll however need some balls to manhandle all 707 PS and 900 Nm of torque from the nuclear powerplant of an engine.
To distribute all that force to the four wheels, Aston Martin developed a new 9-speed wet clutch automatic transmission. The adoption of a wet clutch allows handling of increased torque loadings over a traditional torque converter.
The wet clutch also lets for quicker shifts on the way to hitting its 0-100kph time of just 3.3-seconds.
In the braking department, switching to carbon ceramic brakes and a six-piston caliper setup has dropped a massive 40.5kg in unsprung weight that will undoubtedly improve handling as well.
The existing electronic limited slip rear differential (e-diff) was beefed up and given a shorter final drive ratio of 3.27 compared to 3.07. This bumps up acceleration in the lower gears.
Torque distribution front-to-rear remains fully automatic, with the ability to send up to 100 percent to the rear axle on demand.
Key to the DBX707’s exceptional handling is its air suspension system. Of course, the system was revised with recalibrations of the damper valving and dynamic spring volume switching.
In the spirit of placing the driver in control of a powerful luxury SUV and not just a regular luxury SUV, the DBX707 introduces a revised lower console containing new drive mode selection switches. Drivers now have immediate access to key drive mode settings instead of having to navigate a sub-menu in the regular DBX.
These include dedicated buttons for suspension mode, ESP, manual gear selection mode and the active exhaust.
Cosmetic enhancements all follow the function over form mantra. The grille was enlarged for added cooling airflow while a new lip spoiler on the rear hatch helps reduce lift and increase high speed stability.
Inside, Sports seats are standard though the Comfort units can be had for no-cost.
Given that you’re splurging at least RM 1,078,000 (taxes not included), you’re definitely going to want to make your DBX707 stand out from the rest. Can’t imagine going to drop the kids off at school and seeing another part rolling up with 707 PS as well.
For that, Q by Aston Martin, the brands bespoke service, delivers almost unlimited options in terms of personalisation and customisation.
