LONDON: The McLaren BP23, a three-seat model inspired by the legendary F1, is shaping up nicely at the company’s British headquarters.
With 18 months to go before the car breaks cover officially, it is now known that the BP23 will boast a three-abreast seating layout, with passengers positioned slightly behind the driver, mirroring the F1 from 1993.
McLaren has released shots of a prototype which has been mocked up on the basis of a 720S model, but the firm remains tight-lipped about the details of the hybrid drivetrain.
The BP23 is designed to be the fastest road-going car in the history of the brand. That means it must outpace the mighty P1 plug-in hybrid. That car had an overall power output of 916hp and could top 350kph.
Prices have not been released either, but those who have not ordered a BP23 by now are out of the running already.
McLaren plans to build only 106 examples of the BP23 and has three times as many reservations from people who say they will buy one of the cars without ever having seen or sat in it.
Cars like this appeal to people who might also buy a helicopter or an ocean-going luxury yacht – in other words, people with plenty of money to spare.
