New-generation driver-focused Bentley Conti GT S set for power boost and raft of chassis upgrades
A fresh teaser for the 2022 Bentley Continental GT S has dropped on Instagram, confirming a sportier, more driver-focused version of the British brand’s GT coupe and drop-top GTC is on the way.
Shown ahead of an official unveiling on June 6, the short video shows the Bentley Continental GT S driving on an alpine road with the V8 soundtrack roaring in the background.
A successor for the GT S that featured in the previous generation, expect a power increase for both the latest-gen coupe and convertible.
A safe bet is power and torque will rise from the 404kW/770Nm the current Bentley twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 produces to around 441kW and 800Nm – figures the same engine produces in the Audi RS 6 wagon.
Combined with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, the more powerful Continental GT S is expected to post a sub-4.0sec 0-100km/h sprint.
To cope with the boosted performance, the teaser also reveals the new Conti GT S is set to possibly share the huge 440mm-diameter carbon-ceramic brakes and 10-piston callipers with the Bentley Continental GT Speed.
No official details have been released yet, but Bentley says the return of the GT S will be both focused on “driving performance and striking visual clues”.
Helping deliver a more enthusiastic drive, Bentley is expected to give the Continental GT S a bespoke suspension tune that will trade some ride comfort for greater body control.
Australian details such as launch timing and the pricing premium it will carry over the standard GT coupe (which starts at $430,300 plus ORCs) are still to be announced.
