The Bajaj-Triump Scrambler is set to debut in London on the 27th of June. This was confirmed by Rajiv Bajaj, the MD of Bajaj Auto in a TV interview.
Speaking in an televised interview with CNBC TV18, Rajiv Bajaj confirmed that the first motorcycle from the Triumph-Bajaj partnership would debut in London on the 27th of April.
Rumours at the automotive watercoolers suggest that this bike is a scrambler and test mules spotted on our roads have confirmed that this may very well be the case when Triumph puls off the covers on the 27th of June.
The new motorcycle is expected to sport Triumph badging when it does debut in June and the British firm has been filing trademarks for names this Royal Enfield Himalayan rival could bear.
The British firm recently filed trademarks for the Adventurer, Hurricane And Street Tracker names. While the Street Tracker could suggest another member of the firm’s Street range, the other two nameplates hint at bikes from Triumph’s past.
The Hurricane name seems to be a direct reference to the X-75 Hurricane from 1972 and 1973. Less than 1,200 of these bikes which were targeted at the US market ever hit the streets. Details about the new Hurricane from Triumph remain rather scarce.
The Adventurer nameplate is one that we feel could be used by the Triumph-Bajaj partnership for one of the bikes currently under development by the duo. In the 1970s, Triump had affixed the Adventurer nameplate to the TR5T Adventurer which sported a 500cc twin-cylinder powerplant.
Whether the bike set for launch on the 27th of June in London will bear the Adventurer nameplate is anybody’s guess. However, considering the Scrambler nature of the test mules seen in the wild, this may very well be the nameplate of choice that Triumph uses in a few months time for its new bike.
The test motorcycle from Bajaj-Triumph that has been spotted in the wild is widely expected to sport an engine with a displacement of around 400cc when it hits the streets.
A recent test mule sported twin upturned exhaust pipes, a relaxed riding position, semi-digital instrumentation and upside-down forks with quite a decent amount of travel.
Thoughts About The Bajaj-Triumph Bike Launch On 27th June
The Bajaj-Triumph partnership has been on paper for quite a few years. The fact that Bajaj has already taken over the British firm’s sales and services in India and the emergence of near-ready test mules had hinted that a launch was near.
For Rajiv Bajaj to confirm the actual date now means that we now know around when we will be able to hopefully ride this hopefully not a Frankenstein’s monster.
