The Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One Team unveiled its new car for the 2022 F1 season. It is called the AMR22 and made its debut 100 years after Aston Martin entered its first car in an F1 race.
Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll will be behind the wheel of the new AMR22. The all-new livery uses a green livery inspired by the brand’s racing history, while its new campaign slogan is meant to inspire fans all around the globe. “We climb together” sounds a bit pretentious, but it makes more sense when you understand the context.
Aston’s founder, Lionel Martin, competed in hill climb events with his wife, Kate. The hill they raced up was called Aston Hill. You can probably see where the name comes from.
Like the Red Bull RB18 that made its debut earlier this week, AMR22 has all of the required 2022 updates. It’s not the most stunning F1 car we’ve ever seen, but the new regulations don’t leave much room to go wild. Hopefully, the new aerodynamic features will result in closer racing than ever before, which makes it a worthy tradeoff.
Aston Martin’s involvement in F1 goes beyond just the AMR22, however. As you might have seen last season, Aston Martin also sponsors the safety car. You can also buy the safety car, as the British brand launched a special F1 edition of the Aston Martin Vantage.
Aston also used the launch of AMR22 to showcase the DBX707 and two other cars that benefit directly from everything Aston has learned from F1. These are the Valkyrie AMR Pro and the hybrid hypercar, the Valhalla.
“The return of Aston Martin to Formula One has been a monumental moment for the brand, with transformative impact for our performance credentials and global awareness. Through the race team and our status as the Official Safety & Medical Car of Formula One, we have been able to showcase our product and test new technologies on the world’s greatest circuits,” said Aston Martin co-owner and chairman Lawrence Stroll.
Aston Martin also gave insight into why Formula 1 is so vital for the brand. On race weekends, website traffic increases by 15%. On weekends where the Aston Martin Vantage safety car was used, traffic increased by 25%. This is in addition to the 22,701 hours of television and streaming coverage the brand received.
As the new F1 cars for the 2022 season debut, the teams are being more vocal about the new regulations.
