When it came out in early 2010 (the original Lagonda Rapide came out in the 60s), the Aston Martin Rapide was a 5-door, 4-seater sports sedan that was ahead of its time. The perfect blend of V12 power and one of the best automotive designs the world has ever seen, the Rapide was such an attractive total package. No wonder Aston Martin’s tagline of the car was “the only four-door sports car in the world.” So, we have brought you this What If – What if Aston Martin were to bring back the Rapide now?
We gave this British high-performance sedan some modern design updates so it can match Aston Martin’s current design language. Like how the previous Rapide borrowed most of its design cues from the DB9, this What If Rapide also borrows heavily from the DB11. Both the front and rear ends have been lifted from the DB11, making the car look a lot sharper and more coherent with the current Aston Martin cars. Powertrain-wise, let’s assume the inside has been taken from the DB11 as well. So the 5.9-L naturally-aspirated V12 of the old car has been replaced with the new 5.2-L twin-turbo V12 unit. Maybe there is even a lower-trim version with the 4.0-L twin-turbo V8? Who knows? The What If Rapid now sits on larger 20″ 10-spoke wheels and all accents are in black finish for bold and sporty styling.
