The Aston Martin DB5 is arguably the most famous car in the world. Synonymous with super spy James Bond, this classic captivates with its beautiful design and utterly British demeanour. From the moment you see a DB5 on the big or small screen you long for one, however, their values today are far beyond us mere mortals. The good news is that a more affordable option is on the horizon.
Brought to you by the same people behind the Bugatti Baby II, the Aston Martin DB5 Junior is a 67% replica of the real car. Officially speaking it is a kid’s toy, but we’re reliably informed that adults can squeeze themselves into the deriver’s seat also.
The Little Car Company developed the impressive scaled-down Bugatti Type 35, but its new collaboration with Aston Martin has revealed its most detailed model yet. A real DB5 has been scanned in order to ensure that the Junior is the perfect replica. Every curve, vent and perfectly polished badge has been recreated to form what is effectively a baby Volante. Even the suspension geometry and live rear axel is a match for the actual car! Owners of a real DB5 can also have a matching chassis number for their Junior.
A lightweight aluminium chassis underpins the handcrafted bodywork. Under that lengthy bonnet you’ll find a removable battery pack that can deliver up to 30 miles of driving and an electric powertrain with an output of 6.7bhp. The little car can race on to speeds of up to 30mph, but a restricter can be activated to prevent runaway children. There’s also a remote stop function to give parents additional peace of mind.
If you want greater performance, a Vantage model will double the electric range to 40 miles – impressive considering that some os the best road-legal electric cars can to cover 200 miles at times. Power is upped to 13.4bhp, however acceleration figures have yet to be published. There’s also a race mode that levels the performance with other Little Car Company models for fair competition.
£35,000 – £45,000 is a lot of money for a scale replica of 007’s company car of choice, however, it’s actually rather good value considering that real DB5s regularly sell for over £500,000. Just 1,059 examples will be built with deliveries expected before 2023.
