Carmakers in India have released their monthly sales reports for April 2023. Most of them, including Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, Tata Motors, have registered a rise in year-on-year sales, while some manufacturers have reported a drop in month-on-month sales. Here is a quick glance at the auto sales report for the previous month.
Tata Motors
Indian automaker Tata Motors recorded 13 per cent year-on-year growth in passenger car sales in April 2023. The brand sold 47,007 units, including electric vehicles (EVs) in the previous month, compared to 41,587 units in April 2022. It also registered a 6.73 per cent month-on-month growth in April 2023 against the sales of 44,044 units in March 2023. In terms of domestic sales and export of EVs, Tata reported 179 per cent growth in sales at 6,516 units in the past month compared to sales of 2,333 units in the same month of 2022.
Maruti Suzuki
The sales of India’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturer stood at 1,37,320 units in April 2023, reporting Y-o-Y growth of 12.56 per cent compared to 1,21,955 units sold in April 2022. It registered 3.43 per cent rise in month-on-month sales from 1,32,763 units sold in March 2023. Whereas, the carmaker reported a 7.8 per cent decline in export as it shipped 16,971 units in April 2023 against 18,413 units dispatched in the same period of 2022.
Kia
Kia India registered 22.07 per cent year-on-year growth to 23,216 units from 19,019 units sold in the same month of 2022. It reported 7.98 per cent month-on-month increase in sales last month compared to 21,501 units sold in March 2023. Kia witnessed a growth of 24 per cent between January and April 2023 against the same period of the previous year.
In April 2023, the Sonet emerged as the single highest-selling model for the brand, reporting sales of 9,744 units, followed by the Seltos and Carens, which sold 7,213 units and 6,107 units, respectively. Further, the Sonet and Seltos recorded a sale of 37,518 units and 32,249 units, respectively, between January and April 2023, contributing nearly 38 per cent and 33 per cent to the overall domestic sales of the automaker. Notably, Kia sold seven lakh units in the country as of April 2023.
MG
MG Motor India reported a 126 per cent Y-o-Y growth in sales at 4,551 units in April 2023 compared to sales of 2,008 units in the same month of last year. However, its month-on-month sales declined 24.79 per cent to 4,551 units in the previous month from 6,051 units sold in March 2023.
Hyundai
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) domestic sales stood at 49,701 units, reporting a 12.95 per cent year-on-year growth against the sales of 44,001 units in the same period of 2022. In comparison, it sold 50,600 units in March 2023. The South Korean brand exported 8,500 units in last month, registering 30.33 per cent decline compared to 12,200 units dispatched in April 2022.
Nissan
Nissan Motor India Pvt Ltd (NMIPL) sold 3,249 units in April 2023. The overall sales comprised 2,617 units of domestic sales, while the export stood at 632 units. With this, the carmaker sales rose to 24 per cent in April 2023.
Toyota
Toyota Kirloskar Motor recorded domestic sales of 14,162 units, reporting a six per cent decline from 15,086 units sold in the same month of 2022. The brand exported 1,348 units of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. It registered a strong sales growth of 26 per cent at 61,005 units in the first four months of the current calendar year against the sales of 48,278 units in the same period of the last year.
