The Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance was recently introduced as the flagship model of the C-Class range. Saying goodbye to the thunderous V8 as it switched to a cutting-edge plug-in hybrid with a 2,0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine. The F1 Edition will be produced only for the first year of production and features a number of unique design tweaks inside and out.

The innovative hybrid powertrain utilises an electric motor and AMG high-performance battery on the rear axle for a combined superior system output of up to 500 kW of power and 1020 N.m of torque. This is all paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and sends power to all four wheels. With these impressive numbers, Mercedes claim a 0-100 km/h time for the C63 of 3,4 seconds while the four-door sedan will continue onto a top speed of 280 km/h.
Each example of the F1 Edition will be equipped with the AMG Aerodynamics Package which features a larger front splitter, lip spoiler and a more aggressive rear diffuser insert. The AMG Night Package I and II are also fitted as standard, ensuring the likes of the front splitter, mirrors, window surrounds, tailpipes and badges all have a stealthy darkened finish. The AMG fuel filler cap in silver chrome with “AMG” lettering also emphasises the special status of the edition.

The exterior is finished in exclusive Manufaktur alpine grey paint complemented by AMG lettering on the side and grey to black colour gradient. The 20-inch five-twin spoke AMG forged wheels are painted in matte black, while the red rim flanges were inspired by the wheels of the official FIA F1 medical car.
The interior of the C63 F1 edition is characterised by a black and red theme. The AMG Performance seats are particularly refined with upholstery in exclusive black Nappa leather with red decorative topstitching and embossed AMG emblems in the front headrests. The red theme continues on the seat belts and with the steering wheel wrapped in black Nappa leather and Dinamica microfibre, Mercedes has added red stitching to add consistency to the theme. Mercedes-AMG will also supply each car with a customised AMG indoor car cover with an F1 logo that includes a breathable outer layer made of tear-resistant synthetic fibre fabric and antistatic inner fabric made of flannel.

The finishing touches are the exclusive Edition badge in the interior and specific AMG floor mats with red decorative topstitching and the F1 logo. The C63 S E Performance F1 Edition will be produced for only a year after sales commence, and is available on both saloon and estate models. The C63’s rivals still remain the same, meaning it will still go up against the likes of the BMW M3, Audi RS4 and Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. It may not retain the larger displacement of its adversaries but when it comes to powertrain technology, it’s quite a different beast.
