Nisan’s new-generation Pathfinder large SUV has been transformed into a more competent off-roader thanks to the Rock Creek upgrades, but will we see it in Australian showrooms?
The brand’s local division is remaining non-committal for now, instead focusing first on the launch of the new Pathfinder earmarked for the end of 2022, but the door is open for special editions and unique variants in the future.
Available in the US, the Rock Creek builds on the all-wheel-drive Pathfinder by adding off-road tuned and lifted suspension, 18-inch beadlock-style wheels wrapped in all-terrain rubber, and a tubular roof rack.
From the outside, the Rock Creek is differentiated by a darkened V-motion front grille with mesh insert and bespoke Rock Creek badging.
Inside, the special variant stands apart from the standard Pathfinder thanks to leatherette and fabric seats, Rock Creek embroidery, orange contrasting stitching throughout and the standard inclusion of a surround-view monitor with off-road mode.
The Rock Creek also scores a unique engine tune, upping the ante of the 3.5-litre petrol V6 from 212kW/351Nm to 220kW/366Nm, while the nine-speed automatic transmission carries over from the standard car.
With the Pathfinder Rock Creek Aussie introduction up in the air, Nissan Australia could instead tap the expertise of Premcar in building its own off-road-focused model, like he has done with the Navara PRO-4X Warrior and upcoming Patrol Warrior.
Stay tuned however, for any further developments with the incoming 2022 Nissan Pathfinder.
