The next-generation Tiguan will make its global debut in a few months.
The Volkswagen Tiguan is the most important model for the automaker right now, at least for the US market. It's VW's current best-seller – not only in the US but globally as well. The model has been around for seven years and is in dire need of an update. Thankfully, the new model is just around the corner.
We're one step closer to that reveal as VW has released an official teaser of the next-generation Tiguan, with the wrapped in QR Code-ish camouflage. But beyond the effort to hide the updates, it's immediately apparent that VW dropped the boxy styling of the outgoing model and went for a curvy approach – similar to the ID. 4.
Much of the details on the exterior are still concealed, except for the light bar at the front and the optional HD matrix headlights that are also found in the new Touareg. What isn't apparent in the photos is the increased dimensions of the new Tiguan.

Now using the next-generation MQB evo platform, the new Tiguan is longer and taller compared to the outgoing generation, by 1.25 inches and 0.2 inches, respectively. The width and wheelbase length have been retained. Although only slightly longer, the cargo space has been increased to nearly 23 cubic feet.
Of note, these numbers are only for the standard wheelbase Tiguan; VW has yet to reveal details about the seven-seat Tiguan Allspace.
VW only released a few photos of the Tiguan's interior, in which we saw digital interfaces taking over physical controls in the cabin. Two screen sizes will be available, including a 12.9-inch infotainment for the base trims while the top-spec version gets the bigger 15-inch screen from the ID. 7 sedan. The gear selector will also be adopted from the electric ID models, positioned on the right-hand side of the steering wheel.

However, in response to negative feedback from customers, VW has upgraded its systems with its latest software that's set to arrive in other models in 2025. The Tiguan will feature backlit heating and ventilation functions, while the most awaited comeback of a physical volume rotary knob called Driving Experience Control is finally happening – akin to what you'll find in the ID. 2all Concept. It will be used to toggle drive modes, music volume, or ambient lighting colors.
Moreover, the gear selector for the automated shift gearbox (DSG) will also be adopted from the electric ID models, positioned on the right-hand side of the steering wheel.
VW remains mum about the next-gen Tiguan's oily details. However, the German marque is still poised to offer gasoline (TSI), diesel (TDI), mild-hybrid gasoline (eTSI), and plug-in hybrid (eHybrid) powertrains with its best-seller. The latter can be charged through both AC and DC charging systems.

Front- and all-wheel drivetrain setups will also be available. What we know for now is that the PHEV variants will have an all-electric range of up to 62 miles. We also know that the Tiguan will be one of the last new ICE-powered cars to be launched by the automaker.
VW's Dynamic Chassis Control, known as DCC Pro, has been improved as well and will be available as an option in the new Tiguan. With two-valve shock absorbers employed, this setup is touted to adapt quickly to varying road conditions. A vehicle dynamics manager will be standard – a system that made its debut in the Golf GTI.
The next-generation Tiguan is set to be fully unveiled in September at the 2023 Munich Motor Show. We'll know more details by then including the crossover's availability in the US market.
