Sleek new Porsche Macan EV shown in official sketch alongside speedboat using same electric powertrain
Porsche has unexpectedly given us a fresh glimpse of its all-new 2024 Porsche Macan EV in a press release promoting the German sports car marque’s latest collaboration with an Austrian boat-builder.
As part of a design sketch of the electric speedboat, the 2024 Porsche Macan EV is pictured alongside, with the streamlined profile showing the mid-size SUV’s substantial redesign.
Featuring a much lower ride height, the Macan looks set to morph into a high-riding coupe-style SUV, which as well as looking the goods will also minimise drag and maximise range as a battery-electric powertrain is introduced for the first time.
Other points of interest include a lack of door handles, the use of small exterior mirrors (possibly hinting a cameras rather than traditional door mirrors), Taycan EV-style headlights and a full-width rear LED light bar.
Of course, design sketches often include artistic licence and may not accurately represent the production model.
But we’ve seen a variety of spy pics and other official teaser images that point to a sleeker interpretation compared to the current Macan.
Recently spotted in Berlin by a carsales reader, the 2024 Porsche Macan EV will sit on a new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture (developed with Audi) and come with in-house-developed motors that could provide between 450-520kW and as much as 1000Nm of torque in the flagship Macan Turbo S.
Its appearance next to the new Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air speedboat is no mere coincidence either, with the electric sports boat using the same powertrain technology as the Macan EV.
It’s not known if the electric speedboat will come with the rumoured 450kW dual e-motor layout, but Porsche has revealed that the seafaring version uses the same tech as found on PPE – specifically as it relates to Macan – and that it includes “the lithium-ion high-voltage battery with a total capacity of around 100kWh, a permanently excited synchronous electric motor (PSM) of the latest generation, and the related power electronics”.
“Thanks to the 800-volt technology from Porsche, the electric boat can be charged at DC fast-charging stations; AC charging is also possible,” the company said.
As well as providing the powertrain, Porsche’s designers also styled the boat’s cockpit, steering wheel, main console and throttle integration displays, as well as the luxurious seats and upholstery.
