Dynamically, the Toyota GR Supra is a stellar sports car. But while enthusiasts have mostly accepted its BMW roots, for many, the current Supra still lacks one thing: a manual. Fortunately, it won’t be missing it for long, as the 2023 Supra is indeed bringing back the stick. However, the good news doesn’t stop there. In addition to being fun for your legs and hands, the 2023 GR Supra’s pricing reveals the manual will be (reasonably) kind to your wallet, too.
How much will the 2023 Toyota GR Supra cost?

As in 2022, the 2023 Toyota GR Supra offers two engine flavors. First, there’s the four-cylinder Supra 2.0, which still packs a 255-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. And the Supra 3.0 and 3.0 Premium enter 2023 with their 382-hp 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six powerplants unchanged.
While the Toyota Supra’s horsepower hasn’t changed, the pricing has, though only slightly and just for the six-cylinder model. The 2023 Toyota GR Supra 2.0 costs the same as it did in 2022: without destination and other fees, it starts at $43,540. With those fees, you’re looking at $44,635. Meanwhile, the 2023 GR Supra 3.0 and 3.0 Premium respectively start at $53,595 and $56,745 after destination charges. That’s a $610 increase compared to 2022.
However, there are bigger changes in place for the 2023 Toyota Supra than the minor pricing increase. For one, Toyota is giving all 2023 Supra models new suspension tuning and a new blue paint option, Car and Driver says. Secondly, there’s a new limited-edition version of the Supra 3.0, the A91-MT, which starts at $59,440 after destination. And the third change is in the A91-MT’s name. For the first time since the Mk4, the Supra has a manual again.
But you don’t need to shell out for the special edition, or even shell out extra to get it.

As noted earlier, one of the 2023 Toyota Supra 3.0 A91-MT’s big features is the six-speed manual. Admittedly, the brown-leather upholstery, Alcantara shift knob, and 19” wheels are nice, as are the red strut-tower braces, brake calipers, and badges. But the stick is the main attraction.
However, you don’t need to get one of the 500 A91-MTs to get a manual 2023 Supra. You do, though, need to get a Supra 3.0. At least for now, the GR86 remains Toyota’s sole RWD four-cylinder stick-shift sports car, because the 2023 Supra 2.0 is automatic-only. On the plus side, the manual is a no-cost option on the Supra 3.0 and 3.0 Premium. So, rowing your own gears won’t make your wallet any lighter.
Getting a stick-shift 2023 Supra does mean more than just an extra pedal, though. Manual models get a different center console layout as well as recalibration traction and stability control settings, Car and Driver reports.
Will the 2023 car be worth buying?
In short, the 2023 Toyota GR Supra only has marginally higher pricing than the 2022 model and offers a no-cost manual in six-cylinder models. So, does that change its standing compared to the competition?
Well, one of the main reasons why Car and Driver recently ranked the Mustang Mach 1 over the Supra was the lack of a stick. In a straight line, the Supra slaughters the ‘Stang, plus it has a higher-quality interior. But the involvement factor, together with its V8 soundtrack and greater communication, gave the Mach 1 the win. With the Supra’s new manual, though, the Mustang might slip into second.
It’s a similar story with the 2023 Nissan Z. Dynamically, the GR Supra is the sharper sports car, but it can’t match the manual Z’s level of involvement, especially at road-legal speeds. Putting a stick in the Supra won’t solve its visibility problems or somewhat cramped-feeling interior. It would, however, make it easier for the driver to connect with and enjoy the car.
In other words, if you already liked the Toyota Supra, the 2023 model is more of the same, especially for the Supra 2.0. But if you’ve been on the fence over the lack of third-pedal presence, you might want to schedule a test drive.
