Hyundai’s flagship SUV takes on an edgier design; Australian timing details confirmed
Hyundai has lifted the lid on some of the exterior highlights of its facelifted 2023 Hyundai Palisade, which brings several key updates to the Korean brand’s flagship SUV less than 18 months after its local launch in late 2020.
Due to be revealed in full at the New York motor show on April 13, ahead of its Australian arrival in the third quarter of 2022, the MY23 Hyundai Palisade (which follows the recently released MY22 version) features a wider cascading grille plus new signature front lighting comprising vertical LED composite lights that frame the squarer grille.
The bonnet and front fenders appear seemingly unchanged based on these two teaser images, yet Hyundai says the alterations conspire to deliver a more premium appearance that is both sharp-edged and technical, aided by new multi-spoke alloy wheels.
Hyundai’s overnight teaser shots do not reveal what changes – if any – have been made to the rear of the vehicle, but based on these fresh spy shots, we reckon it will receive a similarly small tweak as part of the update.
Interior updates will reportedly include a revised upper dashboard, steering wheel and centre console, while in North America the Palisade’s current 8.0-inch and 10.25-inch touch-screen infotainment systems will be replaced by a larger 12.3-inch unit.
Other tech upgrades are expected to a digital key, digital rear-view mirror, remote parking control, smart voice recognition and ‘hydrophobic’ windows, while – once again, at least in the US – there will also be upgrades to the Palisade’s safety arsenal.
US models will reportedly score an improved autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system with low-speed reversing functionality and intersection support, plus an updated adaptive cruise control system with curve control.
Australian Hyundai officials confirmed today that the revised Palisade line-up will touch down locally around September, before which further details on specification and pricing will be announced.
However, it’s expected that Hyundai’s biggest model will continue with its current engine options, comprising a 217kW/355Nm 3.8-litre petrol V6 (FWD) and a 142kW/441Nm 2.2-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder (AWD).
Like the smaller Hyundai Santa Fe, hybrid and plug-in hybrid options are also expected at some point.
Hyundai lowered the entry price of its eight-seat SUV range in August last year, to $55,000 plus on-road costs, but it’s unclear whether that will be retained for the MY23 version.
Hyundai is set to livestream the reveal of its updated Palisade from the New York show and you can watch it here at around 11:45pm next Wednesday night.
