It might be down on sales compared to the Mustang and Challenger, but the Chevrolet Camaro isn’t dead yet. For one, rumors suggest it could get the C8 Z06’s V8, perhaps in the ZL1. And two, it’s still getting a few tweaks here and there. One of them is the continuation of a package that some fans missed out on. It’s the Shock and Steel Special Edition, and it’ll be back on the 2023 Chevrolet Camaro.

It’s been a hot second since Chevrolet offered the Camaro Shock and Steel Special Edition. First introduced in 2020, Chevy dropped it the following year. However, after a successful return for 2022, the Shock and Steel package is confirmed for 2023, too.
Although it’s called a ‘Special Edition,’ the Shock and Steel is technically a Camaro appearance package. But then, so is the upcoming Corvette 70th Anniversary Edition (mostly). And it does include at least one performance-friendly feature. It also bundles some otherwise stand-alone features.
Speaking of features, the 2023 Chevrolet Camaro Shock and Steel is almost identical to its 2022 incarnation, GM Authority says. So, if you check the box for GM RPO B2E, your Camaro gets the following items:
- Carbon Flash-painted exterior mirrors
- Black fuel filler cap with a visible carbon-fiber insert
- Yellow brake calipers (RPO J6E)
- Black suede knee pads (RPO S0U)
- Carbon-fiber instrumental panel trim (RPO 3DL)
- 20” package-exclusive blade-design aluminum wheels (RPO 56Y [2SS], RPO Q7Y [2LT, 3LT])
- Center stripe
- Silver
- Shock
In addition to multiple center stripe colors, Chevrolet offers the 2023 Camaro Shock and Steel with multiple paint options. Three of them—Black, Summit White, Rapid Blue—return from the 2022 version. The fourth option, Sharkskin Metallic, is new, though. Furthermore, the stripe color changes based on the paint option. If you want a silver stripe, you must get Rapid Blue. Otherwise, you get Shock, which is an acidic bright green/highlighter yellow.
Sharkskin Metallic is also a new paint option for the regular 2023 Chevrolet Camaro, GM Authority reports. It takes the place of the 2022 model’s Satin Steel Metallic. Also, Wild Cherry Tintcoat is out and Radiant Red Tintcoat is in.
How much does it cost?

You can add the Shock and Steel Special Edition to the 2023 Chevrolet Camaro 2LT, 3LT, and 2SS. And not just the Coupe, but the Convertible, too. As of this writing, though, it’s unclear if the 2023 version bundles the RS Package on the LT models as the 2022 version did. However, given that it includes painted calipers, it likely does, as we’ll explain shortly.
Chevrolet also hasn’t released pricing or availability details for the 2023 Camaro Shock and Steel Special Edition. But it likely won’t cost significantly more or less than the 2022 package, which costs $2995. And it will likely arrive at Chevrolet dealerships at roughly the same time as other 2023 models.
Is the 2023 Chevrolet Camaro Shock and Steel Special Edition worth the price?
As noted earlier, the 2023 Chevrolet Camaro Shock and Steel Special Edition isn’t a limited-edition trim. Chevy will build as many as people order. So, you don’t necessarily need to rush to the dealership. But should you order it in the first place?
Aesthetics aside, the Shock and Steel Special Edition is a good value for money. If you added all its features separately onto a 2022 Chevrolet Camaro, it would bump the sticker up by $4970. That includes the $1950 RS Package, which is required if you want painted calipers and Brembo front brakes. Admittedly, it also includes an oil cooler, but it also lacks the Shock and Steel’s exclusive-design wheels.
In short, while the 2023 Shock and Steel Special Edition might look shocking, its sticker won’t be.
