Ahead of a May 2022 on sale date, Australian pricing and specifications for the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace have been revealed. Priced from $44,590 plus on-road costs, the Tiguan Allspace’s lineup now mirrors that of the regular Tiguan that arrived almost 12 months ago with Life, Elegance and R-Line models available with turbocharged petrol and diesel engines. Measuring 220mm longer than the regular Tiguan, the Allspace features seven seats as standard equipment.
Brand Director of Volkswagen Passenger Vehicles Michal Szaniecki says that the Tiguan Allspace range has been realigned to reflect customer preference and that the Elegance and R-Line variants would prove to be the most popular, the latter most of all.
“It’s vital to have a strong entry variant and for many people the 110TSI is all the SUV they would want,” Mr Szaniecki said. “As ever, though, our customers gravitate toward the top of our ranges and that’s why Elegance and R-Line comprise four of the six Allspace versions available.
A mid-life update rather than an all-new car, the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace ushers in the same styling and trim changes as the regular Tiguan. The front and rear ends of the car feature redesigned lighting units, bumpers, wheels and trim pieces while the interior has new screens and added tech like wireless smartphone charging and mirroring.
The engine range in the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace follows the regular Tiguan. The 110kW/250Nm 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine (called 110TSI in Volkswagen terminology) sits at the entry point to the range, is solely front-wheel drive and is mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission – all other Tiguan Allspace variants are all-wheel drive and use seven-speed dual-clutch autos.
The 132TSI (Life only) engine is a 132kW/320Nm 2.0-litre turbo petrol unit, while the 162TSI (Elegance and R-Line) ups that engine’s figures to 162kW/350Nm. The 147TDI (Elegance and Life) is the sole diesel offering in the range and pumps out 147kW/400Nm.
The 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace hasn’t changed dimensionally, so it still measures 4,701mm long, 1,839mm wide, 1,665mm tall and its wheelbase measures 2,790mm long. Its bootspace measures 230-litres with all seats up, 700L with the third row folded and 1,775L with all rear seats folded.
Standard equipment on the entry-level 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace Life (110TSI: $44,590, 132TSI: $48,590) includes 18-inch alloy wheels, all-LED lighting, auto lights and wipers, an 8.0-inch touchscreen with wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, digital radio, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, tri-zone climate control, heated and auto-folding mirrors, keyless entry and start and a kick-to-open electrically operated tailgate.
Safety equipment includes seven airbags, auto emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, lane keep assist with lane trace assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, rear auto braking, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, automatic parking, front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, driver fatigue monitoring and automatic post-collision braking.
The mid-spec Tiguan Allspace Elegance (162TSI: $56,990, 147TDI: $58,490) then adds larger 19-inch wheels, a larger 9.2-inch touchscreen, heated and ventilated front seats with heated outer second row seats, Matrix LED headlights, adaptive dampers, rear privacy glass, 30 colour ambient lighting and extra chrome.
The top-spec Tiguan Allspace R-Line (162TSI: $60,190, 147TDI: $61,690) then adds larger 20-inch wheels, a bodykit, quicker steering, ‘premium’ LED taillights with dynamic indicators, stainless steel pedals and a black headliner.
Buyers of the Tiguan Allspace Life can choose the optional $5,500 Luxury Package, which adds leather upholstery, an electric driver’s seat, heated and ventilated front seats and a panoramic sunroof. The Elegance and R-Line can be optioned with a $2,600 Sound and Vision Package, which adds a Harmon Kardon sound system, a 360-degree parking camera and a heads-up display. A panoramic sunroof is available separately for the Elegance and R-Line for $2,100 and premium paint ranges from $900 to $1,100.
