The 2022 Subaru BRZ is now available to order here in Malaysia, and based on the brochure provided by a dealer, the sportscar will arrive at our shores pretty much in full global specifications.
That means the all-new Subaru BRZ will also come with the marque’s EyeSight advanced driver assistance suite, although it’s limited to just the automatic variant due to the system’s limitations with manual transmissions.
That being said, the EyeSight system on the all-new BRZ will include a whole host of features, starting with autonomous emergency braking that now supports both frontal and rear collision detections. The system works from 1-200 km/h, and for speeds under 50 km/h, it will actually bring the car to a complete stop.
The system also works in conjunction with the Pre-Collision Throttle Management system, which holds back the car’s power output when you put your foot down on the accelerator, if it detects an obstruction both in front or behind the car.
Next up in the list of features is Adaptive Cruise Control, which uses the stereoscopic cameras behind the rearview mirror to keep a pre-set distance to the car ahead, up to cruise control the speed that you’ve selected.
The ACC system also works in stop-and-go traffic, but requires the driver to click on a button to resume. The Lead Vehicle Start Alert will provide visual and auditory feedback if the driver was not paying attention when the car ahead has moved off.
There’s also the Lane Departure and Sway Warning, which warns the driver when the car detects an unintended lane change. The system lacks lane centering and other correction functionalities, however, so drivers will have to keep their hands on the wheels at all times.
The High Beam Assist system is also exclusive to just the automatic transmission option, but blind spot monitor and rear-cross traffic alert is standard on both manual and automatic transmission models.
The all-new 2022 Subaru BRZ is now available for order in Malaysia, starting at RM229k for the manual transmission option. Due to global stock shortage, the current delivery lead time is roughly around seven to eight months, according to a Subaru dealership.
