Motor Image Malaysia, the distributor for Subaru vehicles here in Malaysia, has begun accepting orders for the 2022 BRZ. Although no information has been officially published yet, Subaru dealers have already begun advertising the sports car for sale.
Based on a price list obtained from a dealer, the 2022 Subaru BRZ will be offered here in Malaysia in both manual and automatic options, starting from RM229,245 (on-the-road, without insurance) for the MT variant, and RM239,245 for the AT.
Launched globally back in November 2020, the all-new Subaru BRZ is powered by a revamped 2.4-litre naturally-aspirated boxer engine, with power bumped up to 237 hp and 250 Nm of torque. You can choose between a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox, but power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels via a Torsen limited-slip differential no matter which transmission you favour.
In terms of performance figures, the automatic takes 6.8 seconds to get to 100 km/h from a standstill, onward to a top speed of 216 km/h, while the manual is slightly quicker at 6.3 seconds, and maxes out at 226 km/h, due to gear ratios.

As for equipment, both variants are fairly similarly equipped. Standard items include the 18-inch aluminium wheels in matte dark grey, automatic LED headlights, eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a customisable seven-inch digital instrument cluster, drive modes selector with a Track Mode option, leather and Ultrasuede upholstery, and aluminium sports pedals.
Safety wise, both variants come with seven airbags, hill start assist, blind spot monitor, and rear cross-traffic alert, but the automatic variant stands out with the additional Subaru EyeSight ADAS suite, which adds active cruise control, front vehicle departure alert, autonomous emergency braking (front and rear), and false start suppression control.
There are no confirmation yet on the Subaru BRZ’s official launch date, nor the number of units the company will be bringing into Malaysia. However, we’ve been told that orders for the sportscar worldwide has been overwhelming with China taking the bulk of the available stock, thus the current delivery timeframe is expected to be around a seven to eight months wait.
