Porsche has launched the eighth-generation Carrera GTS, which includes coupe, cabriolet, and Targa body styles.
The GTS sits above the standard Carrera and Carrera S, but falls below the GT3 and Turbo in the 911 line-up.
This new model adopts the newest generation’s distinctive styling, a more powerful engine, and a range of connectivity features delivered by the latest generation of the Porsche Communication Management system.
Performance
At the heart of the new GTS lies a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder, turbocharged boxer engine that generates 353kW and 570Nm.
The motor pairs with an eight-speed, dual-clutch transmission and sends the Carrera 4 GTS to 100km/h in 3.3 seconds – a 0.3-second improvement over its predecessor.
“A seven-speed manual transmission with a particularly short throw is available for all 911 GTS Coupe models as an alternative to the PDK,” said Porsche.
Its suspension was derived from the range-topping Turbo model and adapted for the GTS to meet its performance demands.
Additionally, the coupe and cabriolet models are fitted with Porsche Active Suspension Management and a sports chassis, making these sit 10mm lower than the Targa variant.
“To match the increased performance of the GTS, the models feature the high-performance braking system from the 911 Turbo,” added the company.
It also gets 20-inch front and 21-inch rear alloy wheels, along with a sports exhaust that features a GTS-specific set-up.
Driving dynamics can be further improved with the Lightweight Design Package, said Porsche, as this saves 25kg over the standard model and adds rear-axle steering.
Features
All new 911 GTS models come with the Sport Design package, which sees a distinctive trim for the front, rear, and side sills – along with darkened headlight surrounds.
These models feature distinctive black silk gloss styling elements on the outside, too, comprising the spoiler lip, centre-locking wheels, the engine cover louvres, and the GTS script.
Inside, the GTS continues the athletic aesthetic – with a GT Sport steering wheel, the Sport Chrono Package, the Porsche Track Precision app, and a tyre temperature display fitted across the range.
It also comes with the Sports Seats Plus package as standard, and features “Race-Tex” upholstery throughout the cabin.
“The central sections of the seats, the steering wheel rim, door handles and armrests, storage compartment lid, and gear lever are all trimmed in the microfibre material,” said Porsche.
The new Porsche Communication Management operation system then gained additional menu screens, a new voice assistant, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.

The South African model line-up for the new Porsche 911 GTS range is as follows:
- Porsche 911 Carrera GTS – R2,290,000
- Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet – R2,490,000
- Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS – R2,400,000
- Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet – R2,600,000
- Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS – R2,600,000
Each model is sold with either a 3-year or 5-year Porsche Driveplan maintenance agreement.
The new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS range is expected to arrive in South Africa in the fourth quarter of 2021.
