The newest generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class not only oozes S-Class influence from its lush interior and drips with cutting-edge tech, it punches above its weight with loads of standard features. You see, Mercedes has finally released pricing and equipment details on the redesigned C-Class, and there is plenty to like, though you’ll pay a minor premium for the privilege.
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class introduces new trim levels to the Mercedes sphere, trading option packages for Premium, Exclusive, and Pinnacle iterations. Standard equipment in the Premium grade includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, an 11.9-inch portrait-style central touchscreen, a sunroof, heated front seats, and more. As for tech stuff, you have the latest MBUX infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a gamut of safety features.
Step up to the Exclusive, and you get a 360-degree view camera, enhanced ambient lighting, wireless phone charging, and the upgraded Burmester audio system with a 3D sound experience. Oh, and you also get the fancy illuminated door sills. Building on Premium and Exclusive trims, the range-topping Pinnacle adds standard navigation, a head-up display, and MBUX augmented video.
All C-Class models ride on 18-inch wheels and come powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 engine equipped with Benz’s EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology. The four-cylinder is rated at 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque and routes power to the rear wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. What’s more, the onboard electric motor can produce an additional 20 hp and 148 lb-ft in quick intervals for better performance, gentle acceleration, and seamless engine starting after shutdowns at stoplights or when paused in traffic.
While rear-wheel drive is standard across the range, Mercedes offers optional 4Matic all-wheel drive for $2,000. This compact luxury sedan, which rivals the Genesis G70, BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, and Lexus IS, has a starting price of $44,600 for the entry model—up from last year’s $42,650—and arrives in showrooms in the spring. That entry price is slightly higher than the Genesis’s ($40,970), BMW’s ($42,445), Audi’s ($40,945), and Lexus’s ($40,300), though the Benz is newer and seems to include better equipment to start.
