GV80 vs. QX60: Luxury Meets Affordability
Genesis GV80
All-new just last year, the 2022 Genesis GV80 has already made its presence felt in the midsize luxury SUV segment. It comes with a choice of powerful engines, and unlike many SUVs, its standard layout is rear-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive an option. With either engine, the GV80 is quick and athletic, and a drive mode selector can alter the feel to be more focused on sport, comfort, or a combination of the two.
A chiseled exterior includes a diamond-mesh grille, giving the GV80 a look that is both handsome and understated. Inside, the seats are roomy and comfortable, with plenty of space for five. One trim offers an optional third row, but it’s small. If you need a third row, there are better choices.
As value for money is a Genesis calling card, the GV80 is well equipped, even in base trim. A wide 14.5-inch screen in the center of the dash controls the infotainment system, with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility, 12-speaker premium audio, and four USB ports. Also standard are leatherette seating, heated and 12-way power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control, and 19-inch alloy wheels.
Standard safety features include lane-keeping assist, blind-spot collision assist, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control.
Upper trims add such things as a panoramic roof, 21-speaker Lexicon audio system, leather seating, and surround-view camera. Every 2022 GV80 comes with a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
Infiniti QX60
A consistent best-seller for Infiniti, the QX60 has been redesigned for 2022, a bit shorter and wider, but still offering three rows of seats. Power comes from a 3.5-liter V6. In place of the previous CVT is now a 9-speed automatic. The new automatic gives the QX60 a snappier feel and lifts towing capacity to 6,000 pounds, though it can sometimes lag when you hit the accelerator. Drive goes to the front wheels, although all-wheel drive is available.
The redesign gives the QX60 a flatter hood, higher shoulder line, and a new grille, which makes the SUV feel more planted and aggressive. Inside is good space for passengers in the first two rows, although the third is best for children or shorter adults. Most trims accommodate seven passengers except the Autograph, whose second-row captain’s chairs reduce capacity to six. The 14.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row expands to 75.4 cubes with all rows folded.
Standard features include simulated leather upholstery, tri-zone climate control, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Infotainment comes via a 12.3-inch infotainment screen that is controlled either by touch or a rotary knob on the console. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, as well as Wi-fi and six USB ports.
Higher trims add such things as climate-controlled seats, navigation, an around-view monitor, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. The Sensory model adds massaging front seats, open-pore wood trim, and 17-speaker Bose audio system, while the top Autograph trim adds semi-aniline leather, center row captain’s chairs, panoramic roof, and towing package.
