hyundai sonata Full Overview
Time has flown by this year, and so have the miles in our Hyundai Sonata Limited. The slinky sedan has already made its second trip to the dealership for servicing. And so far, so good.
Hyundai recommends routine maintenance services such as tire rotation and engine oil and filter replacement every 6,000 miles on the 2020 Sonata. Although our first service visit was free, the dealership charged us $92.01 during our second visit. If you have a newer Sonata, your costs could look different. Hyundai now offers complimentary maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first, on retail vehicles sold on or after February 1, 2020.
Free maintenance was previously limited to the Genesis luxury brand, so it’s nice to see the program trickle down to mainstream Hyundai vehicles. Some rival brands like Honda don’t offer complimentary maintenance. Toyota and Volkswagen do, but they only cover two years or 25,000 miles in the case of Toyota and 20,000 miles in the case of VW.
Although we missed out on that perk, we still enjoy driving around town in the Sonata Limited. We didn’t realize it at first, but this sedan is quite long for some smaller parking spots. Fortunately, our 360-degree surround-view camera, displayed clearly on our large central touchscreen, makes parking a breeze. We don’t really need the sedan’s Smart Park.
During long drives, the Sonata is fuel-efficient enough for our needs but often falls short of its EPA rating. I make frequent trips from Southern California to Las Vegas, and at the end of the trip, the Sonata has plenty of range to spare. Our 2020 Sonata with the 1.6-liter engine is rated by the EPA at 27/36/31 mpg city/highway/combined, yet after studying all the fill-ups in our Sonata’s fuel log, I was surprised to learn we only managed to reach 31 mpg a few times.
Stay tuned for our final thoughts on the 2020 Hyundai Sonata Limited in our upcoming verdict.
