- Lack of agility is a problem
- Consumer Reports isn’t a fan of the gear selector on the Palisade
- Lots to appreciate, despite the two setbacks
There is much to love about the 2022 Hyundai Palisade. This midsize SUV is taking the consumer market by storm and is only second to its sibling, the Kia Telluride. But to better know how well a vehicle ranks among consumers, it’s best to do your research. Consumer Reports has a few things to say about the Palisade.
While the 2022 Hyundai Palisade did receive high scores in its Consumer Reports evaluation and subsequent recommendation, it’s not perfect. The Consumer Reports team found two key setbacks they didn’t love about the Hyundai Palisade.
Lack of agility is a problem

When describing the 2022 Hyundai Palisade, Consumer Reports says, “agility isn’t one of the Palisade’s strong points.” The powertrain is responsive and delivers a smooth and responsible experience. Every Palisade variation comes with the 3.8-liter V6 capable of harnessing 291 hp. It can dash a 0 to 60 sprint in a commendable 7.1 seconds.
But when it comes to steering and handling, body roll and vague responsiveness are a problem. To the Consumer Reports team, these detract from feeling like you’re in control behind the wheel. For anyone who drives on “narrow country lanes,” you may downright hate it.

Most of the 2022 Hyundai Palisade’s controls are easy to use. But there are some complaints from the Consumer Reports team. One significant issue involves the hard-to-read distinctions between infotainment, the media, and driver’s door controls. Because settings are gray on gray, choosing your selection might be challenging. And turning on the backlights doesn’t help much.
But it’s the push-button shifter control Consumer Reports despises. Engaging it requires more dedicated concentration from the driver, and shifting with this button can’t simply be done by feel. The buttons themselves are well-placed and seemingly large enough. However, it’s practically impossible to find a shifting groove with the push button without physically looking down.
Lots to appreciate, despite the two setbacks
Ultimately, Consumer Reports gives the 2022 Hyundai Palisade a relatively high overall score, earning the checkmark for recommended status. It’s a great SUV to consider, even if there are a couple of issues with controlled agility and a tricky push-button shifter.
For a three-row ride, the Hyundai Palisade is a powerful performer. The powertrain is reliable, and the transmission earns a perfect rating. The Consumer Reports team did award several high marks for ride quality, braking, trunk and cargo space, and acceleration. There aren’t many others in this SUV space who can brag as the Palisade can in these high scores and endorsements.
Other perfect scores came in the comfort and convenience categories, where the Consumer Reports team cited minimal road noise and great rear-seat comfort. The interior space is cavernous, and Consumer Reports says getting in and out is about as easy as one might expect for a midsize SUV. The third row is more ideal for children or small adults, but it’s not as cramped as the other third rows in this segment. Even according to Edmunds, the Palisade is a dream for comfortable seating and ride quality.
The 2022 Hyundai Palisade trims include the SE, the SEL, the Limited, and the Calligraphy. Buyers will likely be happy with these trims’ tech, comfort, power, and space. Just be mindful of the less-than-stellar agility and handling and the push-button shifter. Of all the things to love, those two points Consumer Reports hated the most.
