Porsche did something big this week: the 100,000th copy of the Taycan electric sedan rolled off the line in Zuffenhausen, just three years after production first started in September 2019.
The history-making unit was a Neptune Blue Taycan Turbo S (pictured above) destined for a customer in the United Kingdom.
“We are very pleased to have reached this milestone in production history so quickly despite the recent challenges posed by the semiconductor shortage and the volatile Covid situation,” said Kevin Giek, Vice President, Model Line Taycan. “With the Taycan, we have made a decidedly successful start in the electric age.”

The United States, China and the United Kingdom/Republic of Ireland, in that order, are the three largest markets for the Taycan, whose lineup has quickly expanded with the addition of the Cross Turismo and Sport Turismo variants. In 2021, it led all Porsche cars in terms of global sales, including the legendary 911 that has over one million units built throughout its long and celebrated career. In Canada, the Taycan ranks second.
While range is not among the best, the Taycan was not designed as a low-mileage car, either. Porsche has tracked down some of the owners who’ve travelled the farthest, including French entrepreneur Jean-Hubert Revolon, who has driven his Taycan 4S for more than 188,000 km since taking delivery in August 2020. Many others have also hit the 100,000 km mark, and among those are a few who also own a 911.

Improved for 2023
After regaining the title of the fastest production electric car at Germany’s Nürburgring Nordschleife, the Porsche Taycan is returning with a series of updates for the 2023 model year. These updates will also be available to 2020, 2021 and 2022 Taycan models of all configurations in the very near future.
Mainly, thermal management is optimized so the battery can precondition faster and to a higher temperature, allowing for optimum charging curve performance even at higher state of charge. This will increase range—up to about 50 km based on the WLTP standard (exact figures for Canada have yet to be posted). Charging times will be shorter, too.
Meanwhile, the infotainment system with Porsche Connect is also improved. Highlights include a colourful tile screen, revised user interface, integrated Spotify and wireless Android Auto. The head-up display design is revised, as well, and charging stations can be filtered by power output.
