That’s the question owners of model-year 2022 and 2023 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 4xe plug-in hybrid electric SUVs should be asking themselves following a recently announced federal safety recall. On the bright side, people are learning of the issue — which affects more than 13,700 vehicles — as our report on the recall is Cars.com’s most popular news article of the past week.
At issue with recalled Wrangler Unlimited 4xe models is a faulty battery pack assembly that may fail to secure its fuse, which may cause excessive heat and result in a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Dealers will inspect and replace the battery fuse for free and will also check the assembly for damage, replacing it if necessary.
