You have to admit, Chinese brand BYD has been upping their design game. The company’s new design language, known as the Dragon Face, has even caught the attention of the former designer Frank Stephenson. Now the design language has made it onto the first electric vehicle (EV), the BYD Han, and we can’t take our eyes off the new car.
It’s not a wonder that BYD has just rolled out arguably one of the best looking EVs on the market, the new design language is penned by former designer Wolfgang Egger after all.
The Dragon Face design language was first introduced on the BYD Song Max internal combustion engine (ICE) car. The BYD Han is the first EV under the company to bear the new “EV Dragon Face” design language.
The first word that comes to mind when looking at the BYD Han EV is ‘sleek’. The design reminds one of water flowing smoothly from the front to the rear end. From the downward curved foglamp housing to the concealed door handles, there is not a bump out of line.
The same can be said about the headlamps. The slit-like design seemingly flows into the chrome front lip that takes the place of the front grille.
However, that isn’t the main topic here, the main topic is the introduction of the limited edition Thousand Mountain Jade (directly translated). Let’s just call it the Han Jade, shall we?
The BYD Han Jade features a beautiful pearlescent dark green colour that sparkles tastefully than Edward Cullen as the light shines on it. The colour is paired with stylish dual-tone wheels.
In addition to that, the brake callipers are painted in a nice jade green to further compliment the green paint.
But the changes unique to the limited-edition Jade don’t end there. BYD designers have also added jade green accents to the interior such as the stitching along the leather while the same green is weaved into the carbon-fibre design on the centre console.
Other than that, the seats are also finished in a mix of black and a muted jade green suede to keep up with the theme.
Customers who fancy the BYD Han Jade will have to fork out at least CNY 41,200 (~RM 27,000) more than the standard BYD Han as the Jade costs CNY 329,800 (~RM 219,000).
For context, prices for the BYD Han start from CNY 269,800 (~RM 179,700) for the base spec and top off at CNY 288,600 (~RM 192,000).
The BYD Han has two ranges with the base and mid-spec Han capable of doing a 715 km range. Its single front motor produces 244 PS and 350 Nm. The motor can propel the car to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds.
Meanwhile, the range-topping Han and the Han Jade both feature two motors making them both four-wheel drive. The motors produce a combined output of 272 PS and 700 Nm. The car is capable of making the century sprint in just 3.9 seconds.
However, as both the four-wheel drive and the front-wheel-drive Han come with the same 85.4 kWh battery pack, the range on the four-wheel drive is reduced to just 610 km, based on the CLTC.
BYD EVs are taking the world by storm and it’s not a surprise given that the cars look brilliant, especially in the BYD Han Jade version. If this EV makes it to Malaysia, would you fork out money for it?
