For starters, the new Kia Sonet now gets better safety features and equipment right from the lower variants and is now priced from Rs 7.15 lakh (ex-showroom). Speaking of the changes, the Sonet now gets four airbags as a standard part of the package across the range while the additional two curtain airbags, which were earlier only available with top-end GTX+, are now also available with the HTX+ variant.
The move comes after the government’s decision to make six airbags mandatory from October 1, 2022. The 2022 Sonet is now the first compact SUV in India to offer four airbags as standard.
The Sonet is the only car in the segment to be offered with four airbags as standard.
In addition to this, the iMT-equipped HTK+ variant now gets additional safety features like Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) and Hill Assist Control (HAC).
Tyre Pressure Monitoring System is also a standard part of the package. Outside, you will not get Sonet badging at the rear in addition to two new colour options – Sparkling Silver and Imperial Blue. A new digital instrument console will also be on offer on the HTK variant.
This Korean SUV is now priced from INR 7.15 lakh (ex-showroom)
No changes have been made to the powertrain options and the Sonet continues to be offered with three engine options – 1.2-L petrol, 1.0-L turbo petrol, and a 1.5-L diesel.
While the 1.2-L and 1.0-L petrol engines churn out 83 hp and 120 hp respectively, the 1.5-L diesel engine on the other hand delivers 115 bhp. Having said this, the SUV is offered with five gearbox options that include a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, 6-speed iMT, 6-speed automatic, and a 7-speed DCT gearbox depending on the variant and engine that you opt for.
