[Yes, this sounds like an April Fool’s Day gag, but the company’s press release came out days ago, in late March—we’re just a little late to publishing. In other words, we have no reason to assume this is a joke. —Ed.]
How did you learn to drive? Bet it wasn’t at the wheel of a $285,000 562-horsepower supercar.
Kids these days have it so good, because Track Days, a U.K.-based track experience company, is offering kids aged 10 to 17 the opportunity to pilot a Ferrari 458 Italia or a Lamborghini Gallardo LP570 Performante on a race track.
The program, called the Junior Platinum Supercar experience, starts at £79, which is about CDN$130. Each ticket comes with an introductory lesson from one of the experienced instructors, followed by a nearly 10-km run behind the wheel of a supercar on the track, with an expert in the passenger seat.
There are ten different track locations across the U.K. where the company is offering the new juvenile driving experience.
“We are incredibly excited to be able to bring this experience to kids who probably never imagined that they could end up driving the car of their dreams, or from the poster on their bedroom wall,” the company said in a release. “It’s certainly a step up from a first driving experience in their parents’ car to get behind the wheel of a 200-mph-plus Ferrari or Lamborghini!”
In England, you can apply for a provisional license at 15 years and 9 months old, but can’t drive an actual car on public roads until age 17, so surely there are going to be a number of teens who are eager to participate.
In addition to Track Days’ latest Platinum program for kids, the brand offers several other youth-focused driving experiences, including first-drive track days and training programs that teach defensive driving fundamentals.
