The New Aston Martin DBX 707
Look out, Lamborghini! Aston Martin just made their award-winning DBX even more extreme. Aston Martin took their already poised SUV model and refined it inside and out. The DBX 707 is an SUV like no other, it “elevates Aston Martin to the pinnacle of the segment with a unique combination of blistering performance, supreme dynamics, unmistakable style and absolute luxury.”
Aston Martin believes there are no competitors for the DBX 707 in this segment – DBX 707 is said to be the “Fastest, most powerful, and best handling” performance SUV. All done in the most British way, poised and elegant while maintaining its “authentic sporting attributes.”
Starting with the powertrain, Astin Martin engineers took the existing DBX’s 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 and pushed it to its fullest potential. Spearheaded by Aston Martin’s Head of Powertrain Engineering, Ralph Illenberger, the DBX 707’s engine now features ball-bearing turbochargers (still in a hot-V configuration) with new bespoke engine calibration to juice out more power and torque.
DBX 707 also gets an all-new 9-speed ‘wet clutch’ automatic transmission to help manage the increased torque while providing noticeably faster gear changes. The driver doesn’t just get “an increased sense of control and responsiveness”, the revised engine now packs on another 155 horsepower and 147.5 lb-ft of torque to the ‘regular’ DBX. Totalling 697 horsepower and 663.8 lb-ft of torque, giving an insane 0-62 mph (0-100 kph) time of 3.3 seconds.
With the immense powertrain upgrades to the DBX 707, its brakes also needed to match. Measuring 16.5″ / 420mm in the front and 15.4″ / 390mm in the rear, the DBX 707 gets carbon-ceramic brakes that are vented. With further tuning to improve pedal feel and braking response, the carbon-ceramic brakes help bring down the weight by 89 pounds / 40.4 kg compared to the standard ones.
Thanks to a new version of the electronic limited-slip rear differential (e-diff), the DBX 707’s revised final drive ratio is 3.27 (compared to 3.07 of the standard DBX). While the torque distribution front-to-rear remains fully automatic, it can send up to 100% of torque to the rear wheels on demand.
Maintaining the true spirit of a sports car, the e-diff “find[s] the sweetest handling balance and seek to maintain the optimum combination of traction and agility at all times.” says Aston Martin. Key to this is the air suspension system with new damper valving and recalibration of dynamic spring volume to reduce body roll for better handling.
Exterior-wise, the DBX 707 also got a much bigger grille. The redesigned front-end accommodates all-new daytime running lights, air intakes, brake cooling ducts, and a front splitter. Overall the new car looks a lot sharper and exudes more presence. Finished with dark satin chrome windows, gloss black and dark chrome, it surely will set itself apart from the standard DBX. But that extensive list of exterior changes is not enough, you can further enhance your DBX 707 to something truly unique with Q by Aston Martin.
