Amongst EV enthusiasts, XPeng is one of the up-and-coming brands that is regarded in the local market as a more affordable Tesla with a big focus on in-car software.
The XPeng P7 sedan that competes with the Tesla Model 3 in China is gaining popularity amongst local buyers. Now, a Tesla Model Y-sized SUV, has now been spotted testing in China which is believed to be the coming XPeng G5. This was first reported by Yiche, a local car blogging website.
The spotted model has a curved back like the Model Y and was spotted in camouflage with flush door handles. It also featured the sharper headlights that XPeng is now renowned for.

This new SUV will be built on XPeng’s new “F platform” with an expected length of around 4.7 meters according to the car blog it was featured in.
There aren’t a lot of details that can be seen in the rear while it was spotted testing. Cnevpost also captured the car in a short video on YouTube that gives a clearer look at this SUV EV.
It’s unclear if this EV will be capable of fast charging at full speed using XPeng’s new 480 kW chargers that have previously been showcased to add 210 km of range in 5 minutes. That was shown possibly on XPeng’s luxury large SUV, the G9.
XPeng currently has no plans to launch in any right-hand drive markets but you can purchase their EVs in more progressive EV markets like Norway.

It’s good to see more options coming on the EV market globally and with Australia being at the start of a fairly steep adoption curve, in 2023, we might see some of these affordable EVs here too.
