Indonesia has just hosted the launch of the all-new 2022 . The archipelago is the third country in this region to introduce the all-new Vios, after Thailand and Laos.
While the previous-generation Vios was locally-assembled (CKD) at Toyota’s Karawang plant, the all-new 2022 Vios is now imported (CBU) from Thailand.
Headlining Indonesia’s Vios is its 1.5-litre 2NR-VE petrol engine (106 PS, 138 Nm), similar to the one powering the Perodua Myvi. In Indonesia, the all-new 2022 Vios gets the choice of a Dual-mode CVT (D-CVT) or a 5-speed manual.
In Indonesia, 3 variants are offered, namely 1.5 E M/T, 1.5 G CVT, and 1.5 G TSS CVT. Prices start from IDR 314,900,000 (~RM 96k) for the entry-level variant. The 1.5 G CVT goes for IDR 355,200,000 (~RM 108k), while the Toyota Safety Sense-equipped 1.5 G TSS CVT variant goes for IDR 368,400,000 (~RM 112k).
This marks an increase in price of between 25 to 26 percent compared to the model it replaces.
The Indonesian Vios’ kit count largely mirrors its Thai counterpart, in which the model includes features like a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, electric parking brake (EPB) with Auto Hold, as well as various drive modes.
Safety is backed by the Toyota Safety Sense ADAS suite, encompassing features like Pre-Collision Warning and Braking Assist (PCWBA), Pedal Misoperation Control (PMC), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), Auto High Beam (AHB), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and Front Departure Alert (FDA).
6 airbags are offered on the TSS-equipped variant; every other variant below that are fitted with 2 airbags.
To recap, the all-new 2023 Toyota Vios is developed under the Daihatsu’s ‘D’ nomenclature D92A project code, because the development is lead by Daihatsu, under a Toyota-Daihatsu co-owned internal company called Emerging Market Car Company (EMCC). Malaysian engineers from Perodua also contributed to the regional project as Perodua is now a regional R&D hub for Daihatsu, and by that same extension, part of EMCC too.
Closer to home, Malaysia won’t be launching the all-new 2023 Toyota Vios so soon, owing to lead time necessary for local assembly (CKD) work.
