The Mercedes-Benz EQS is a new electric version of the powerful and luxurious S-Class sedan. Drivers can choose between two potent powertrains, which offer excellent range estimates. The EQS also comes loaded with an abundance of standard features and one of the poshest interiors in the segment.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS has a jaw-droppingly high starting price, starting at $102,310. In comparison, you can soon get the base 2022 Lucid Air for almost $25,000 cheaper. Still, price isn’t everything: the EQS tops the Lucid Air in four other areas.

1. The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS has the best interior

4 reasons to buy a 2022 mercedes-benz eqs, not a 2022 lucid air

2022 Mercedes-Benz AMG EQS | MBUSA

U.S. News gave the Mercedes-Benz EQS a higher score in terms of interior quality. The 450+ Premium trim is surrounded by plush leather, and the front seats come with ventilation and heating.

You also get a panoramic sunroof, several advanced tech features, and a high-quality Burmester audio system. Despite the lack of physical controls, U.S. News says the infotainment system is relatively easy to master.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS also offers slightly more passenger space compared to the Lucid Air. Critics found the Lucid Air’s rear row too cramped, and there’s not even a standard sunroof. However, the Lucid Air’s interior is still very upscale and even offers something similar to the MBUX Hyperscreen.

2. The 2022 EQS is more enjoyable to drive

While the Lucid Air earned a higher overall performance score, it still suffers from a stiff suspension. The Mercedes-Benz EQS comes with a standard air suspension, creating a smooth ride even when the car is in Sport driving mode. The EQS also benefits from four-wheel steering, which gives you a tighter turning radius and smoother traction.

However, every Lucid Air reportedly offers more range and horsepower than every available EQS model. Right now, only those who purchased the top-tier Dream trim have received their deliveries. The Lucid Air Dream R makes 933 horsepower and gets 520 miles of range. According to Tom’s Guide, those who reserved a Lucid Air Grand Touring are next in line to receive their cars this summer. These models make 800 hp and guarantee an estimated 516 miles of range.

That being said, the Mercedes-Benz EQS is still both fast and efficient. The base single-motor setup makes 329 hp and boasts 350 miles of range. Opting for AWD only brings that range down to 340 miles, plus you get 516 hp on tap. Some critics say it’s not as thrilling to drive as other EVs, but it’s plenty of power for daily driving.

3. The 2022 Lucid Air has the smaller cargo hold

The Lucid Air offers 7 cubic feet in the frunk area and 16 cubic feet in the trunk. Critics were particularly impressed with the frunk’s extra storage compartment underneath the load floor.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS doesn’t have a frunk because that space is reserved for its HEPA air filter. However, it compensates for that with a total cargo area of 63 cubic feet. Even with all the seats in use, you still get 22 cubic feet.

4. Mercedes-Benz is a trusted automaker

Mercedes-Benz already has quite an established reputation for making well-built cars that live up to their performance promises. While its latest cars aren’t as reliable as other competitors, any older Mercedes-Benz models still hold up well today.

In contrast, the Lucid Air is a brand new vehicle from a company that hasn’t proven itself worth widescale consumer trust. Additionally, the cheaper Lucid Air models haven’t even been produced yet. If you’re going to spend over $100,000 on a vehicle, you probably want to be sure it has a reliable badge behind it.
