The editorial team states: “In 2019 we were invited by Ferrari to participate in their Tailor Made customization program with the encouragement to expand and explore the use of colours, materials and finishes further than the luxury automaker has ever done before. We had just returned from our CH (COOL HUNTING) Japan trip, and as we were still inspired by indigo and traditional Japanese crafts we decided to bring some of the artisans in from our Omakase collaborations to help create our dream car.”
The short, 1-minute long interview which was published on Instagram shows some of the inspiration, however a narrated YouTube video is far more comprehensive on the design choices and inspiration behind the final Ferrari Roma in their Tailor Made programme.
“The Ferrari Roma Tailor Made, Specially Crafted for COOL HUNTING conveys the nuance of craft we employed and the ease of our partnership with Ferrari. After years in development, we’re so excited to share this project—especially as it makes appearances in the US until it ends up with one lucky owner.”
Much of the interior is bespoke, using hand-made components and unique materials sourced from authentic artisans – for example; the gear selector had been custom made in copper by Japanese artisans, a material that is prevalent in other aspects of the car.
Flavio Manzoni, Chief Design Officer of Ferrari and the man responsible behind the design of the grand tourer states that the COOL HUNTING project has “pushed the boundaries of the personalisation of any kind of Ferrari.”
The completely bespoke Ferrari Roma Tailor Made with blue bodywork and copper-coloured rims may not be everybody’s cup of tea but the final product will go onto a buyer with a price tag that is expectedly a little bit more than the standard version.
