Lamborghini thinks the new Countach is just as poster-worthy as the original.
When Lamborghini revived the Countach name with the new LPI 800-4 this year, we called it a “poster car for the 21st century.” While nothing can replace one of the original poster cars, the first Countach, nor other classics like Ferrari’s F40 and Testarossa, the new Countach is a head-turner in its own way. For a new, younger generation not held back by nostalgic ties to the original, the latest Countach is a worthy poster car. Lamborghini is now celebrating this by launching five new Countach LPI 800-4 posters. Considering that all 112 examples of the supercar have already been sold out, this is an easier way to “own” a Lamborghini Countach.
Five artists and illustrators from around the world contributed to the project, and each one has come up with a unique backdrop for the Countach. For instance, Andreas Wannerstedt from Sweden is known for 3D works with hypnotic looped animations. He wanted to depict the encounter between advanced technologies and nature, and his poster is of the Lambo with an imaginary sunset.
Omar Aqil, a Pakistani 3D illustrator and CGI artist, placed the car in the middle of a mind-blowing technological evolution over the last 50 years. Other artists showed the Countach juxtaposing the modern world with the brand's history, amid abstract objects that seem to come from another world, and in a scene that highlights the car's graphic qualities.
Our favorite might be Wannerstedt’s yellow Countach parked at the end of an imaginary bridge with a sunset in the background. It’s the least busy of all the designs so your eye is drawn to the car’s low side profile and intricate detailing. Each poster costs $38, somewhat less expensive than a real Countach’s price of over $3 million. Even though the original Countach’s designer isn’t a big fan of its modern successor, the LPI 800-4 still makes a heck of a statement with its 6.5-liter V12 engine and 48-volt motor. Together, the combination promises a heady 802 horsepower and 0-62 mph takes just 2.8 seconds. The new Countach – in poster form, anyway – will make a great addition to any man cave or teenager’s bedroom wall.
